Originally started this as a Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni thread, then decided to change it to an anime in general thread. Anyway, first anime of discussion: Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni!

Yeah. You anime fans probably know about this horror series. Anyone else watch it yet?

I love the series. It was so surprising how it just sucks you in, though.

I absolutely LOVE Higurashi!!! :D

Me and my friends all relate to it, and we all have our own characters who we are most like, if that makes sense :P.

My friends think I'm most like Satoko (I hated it when she got tortured by Shion O__O that was so horrible >__< especially when she kept trying not to cry and by trying to show how strong she was).

Yeah, I sorta liked that scene where Satoko got tortured. I didn't like it in the sicko kind of way though, I just liked how it was sort of a defining moment for Satoko. It's one of the saddest scenes in the whole series IMO.

Another of my favorite series is Paradise Kiss.

Though everyone's pissed that she didn't end up with George. XD Personally, I think it was probably the most realistic ending to the series.

i haven't seen very much Anime before...but i have seen movies like spirited away and howls moving castle and of course the kids shows (pokemon etc.). i've also seen Mezzo Forte and the Black Lagoon...what are peoples thoughts on these? i didn't mind them

I haven't seen those two, but most anime fans love (or at least like) the Ghibli movies, which include Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle (though there are many more).

wow this is a good anime, gonna buy now. XD Howl's Moving Castle was the first anime movie i really watched. got that on dvd to. and i know bad me coz this is about Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, but YAY for FRUITS BASKET. (sorry)

I love Fruits Basket. My Kyo plushie is right next to me right now. <3 Love him, but I also love Yuki (I sound like a traitor XD), Hatsuharu, and Momiji.

after seeing this thread i went to video shop to have a look at other animes and i got ghost in the shell, spriggan and a series called Bleach and absolutely LOVED them! can anyone suggest some other anime's i may like (action or sci-fi)?

A lot of people I know love D. Gray Man, but please watch the subbed version (cuz I heard the dub was horrible). Jing: King of Bandits is an action/comedy type of series. Since you've tried Bleach you may as well try Naruto because both are extremely popular (though most people tend to be more extreme towards one series). Peacemaker is a samurai action series. I haven't seen much of it, but I did enjoy what I did see. You might like Saiyuki as well (there's three series currently licensed in the US: Saiyuki, Saiyuki Reload, and Saiyuki Reload Gunlock. Obviously start with Saiyuki). Sorry, I'm not a sci-fi fan, but I heard that Aria the Animation is pretty good. Another popular sci-fi is Gurren Lagann. Code Geass is also extremely popular. I watched a sci-fi called Paprika which was very good as well, but it was REALLY trippy. Oh yeah, on terms of action, you may like Elemental Gelade as well.

Some of these series may be hard to find, or may not be in your local rental store.
