Well... I just causally brought up the topic of self-harm with I friend of mine and the response I got was 'Ew'. Just 'ew'.

And I was wondering has anyone else gotten this response? Is this how the world views us? :confused:

Wow, how completely inconsiderate and rude. Just goes to show how very non-understanding that person is.

However, yes I have gotten this response, many times. Unfortunately a huge amount of people are very ignorant and have such little knowledge of self-harming. But who cares how others view this, they aren't the ones going through the ongoing struggles we are going through.

ive had that response before ive also had im stupid and naive as they do not understand anything of what we go through i only had a small fraction of my friends tryin to stop me the rest of them just said i was an attetion seeker

Yes, first they went ew then yuck.....then they started laughing about it. I just sat there looking VERY unimpressed. Its not funny. Its not something to joke about.

well my friends keep sayin im self harming bcuz they saw 1 cut on my arm wen i frist started.. i put them straight though so they dont think anymore.. but whenever it comes into subjects they just go.. dirty emo's dunno how they can do that..

it really hurts because i know i cant tell them i need help because they would think im a dirty emo to. There so inconsiderate! xx

Yeah, I'm gotten an "Ew", before. Then, the two guys said, "Tried it, all I did was bleed all over the place. I don't get why anyone would do it." I mean, I understand why they don't understand. They don't see a need for it.
Of course I've gotten another "ew", but she was squeamish when it came to blood. She knows that I cut. However, she doesn't like it when I use a rubber band for a replacement, either. She doesn't like the marks it leaves.

They can be as rude as they want, those things don't upset me. An occasional "ew" is unimportant when it comes to the big picture. If someone acts ignorant, then they become ignorant. No one will tell them anything if they condemn before they learn.

When my friend almost found out, she flipped out and was saying all these ignorant things about cutting but I convinced her that the cuts were nothing cause they weren't really that bad and I could pass them off as something else. I felt really bad after that though cause it makes me think how my other friends would react if they found out.

that's horrible. I've had quite mature responses from both of the friends I told. One of them said 'Is this an admission to you cutting yourself' I said 'Possibly.' He said 'no, Definately?' i said 'yeah' and he actually listened to me, it took bout an hr to convince him I wasn't a danger to myself (dont think he believed me fully with that one lol) and then I got really paranoid and thought he'd told his dad who's a doctor. He hadn't lol.
My other friend gave quite a unique response...'Sorry, I jizzed...bad timing lol' and then said he thought I should get help. Both friends said they'd help me wherever they could.
Of course, there are a few of my friends who i'm not going to tell, and a few others i probably should later on, coz they've SHed in the past too.
