here is my idea :P

sorta like myspace...also...the owner of the page can choose which comments are displayed...and a report button etc.

so...approve/disapprove?

They used to be here, but were taken away due to bad behavior and misuse.

you think there is any chance of bringing them back?

I can't be sure, but it's possible.
Maybe with the new generation of VT comes new responsibility :P

as nick said we used to have them, but constant misuse ment that the senior staff at the time had no choice but to disable it. perhaps in time it may come back, but not in the near future i don't think.

No....
Its hard for the staff to police theres allot of members
theres already all the threads in all the main forms, puberty, the ward, diary's, the blogs, and social groups

Thats allot for a handful to keep an eye on
a weakness that was exploited many times when profile comments were enabled

besides I think VT members have a fair amount of expression as is

not saying its a bad idea
hence why we used to have them
just it ended up doing harm instead
which isn't what VT is about

Hmmm, Too be honest i sorta like this idea because im not on here alot so it could be helpfull for users to contact me but theres alot of other ways poeple can contact me. Plus i would nt want to make the vt staff have more jobs to do by taking care of profile comments and all that.

so i think its a good idea but we dont really need it i guess.

Seeing as the staff has refused my question of how the comments were abused multiple times, I say it's a bad idea. It was misused (of which, I'm not sure if anyone outside the senior staff knows how it was misused) which lead it to be disabled. It was a great feature, but there's already too much to moderate on VT as Kodie pointed out. I think posting will be a quicker way to interact with people or you can PM them or e-mail them if you want to talk to them.

I know how it was misused. But I'm not going into details.

This may seem strange and some may not like it... But how about allowing profile comments for those with over 1000 posts? I mean, I think if someone has over 1000 posts they're PROBABLY a trusted member. That and it would be a lot easier to police.

Though I don't know if its possible to only have profile comments open to certain users.

I think they should be bought back. It was only a select few members that did most of the abuse.

You can also now report profile comments just like you can a post.

I don't see how profile comments are necessary. You're leaving a message to somebody on the internet. Why can't you do this in the forums? Their blog? The PM system? Pair this along with the fact that it would be super hard to moderate, and you can see why we don't need/shouldn't add profile comments.

Oh I remember these.

Yea, we had these. They were taken away about...2 weeks after we got them. The staff just couldn't find a system to keep up and monitor all of the comments. I think they were cool but it's been so long that we had them that you just kinda...idk, don't care after, kinda get used to not having them.
However, you will see what it will become to, have a look around GovTeen. Prime example.
I don't think we should bring them back, we've survived long enough without the,

The people who were abusing it were hardly about to report the comments and we can't count on people to happen upon misuse and then trust it all to be reported. Too much already goes unseen and too much already goes seen and ignored. Plus I just think they really are unnecessary- lol if you really can't figure out a way to communicate with people...there's just a plethora of things for people to do.

I like the idea, but am also aware that is hasn't worked in the past. I'm a bit confused as to why govteen still has them, but VT is NOT govteen, so it really doesn't matter. I do have to say that they would be better than picture comments (which we currently DO have). I'm not a fan of the picture comments at all.

There really isn't a feasible way to monitor them. With being able to send private messages already I don't see how they're worth the headaches that they caused last year.

I do agree with that.

I think it's a good idea, but we already have several different ways of communicating with other members. So we don't need profile comments as well.

Although, I do like Adam's idea of only allowing members with over 1000 posts to have access to profile comments.

If there weren't enough staff members to handle it then, don't we have enough now? It seems that for the past few months, multiple mods were being added. I think we have more mods now than we did when we introduced profile comments.

I agree with U_N to only allow this privilege to members over a certain amount of posts. Say, 1500 or 2000? I just think that the staff is using the misuse of the system last time as an excuse. That's just my opinion.

I think that members that have, at the minimum, of 1500 posts are responsible enough to have the ability to have this feature enabled.

I liked them when we had them and i would love for them to come back in the future when there is a better way to mod them.

An excuse for...?
Why else wouldn't we want it?
