Why do we get tired after masturbating?

Because I seem to do it as a sleep aid.. Sounds screwed up but It works.. However I sometimes wake up with my boxers off :whoops:

Anyways back to my question

Tired after masturbation? Whats up with that. Can someone shed any light on that.

(Bonus: What is the cause of 'Morning Wood?' as a side question)

It relaxes you, and if your relaxed, obviously you'll be able to fall asleep faster/easier.

Oh and this : "The aftermath of orgasm releases serotonin which is necessary for sleep, so yes."

I think it's more than that. Masturbation takes a lot of energy. Orgasms tire people out like CRAZY. So in addition to being relaxed, the energy loss makes you more tired.

These are all correct, masturbation relaxes you, so you feel sleepy. But, the biological reason is that sex is for procreation (babies), and we've evolved so that the most fittest get to reproduce, those things that better the chances for survival are passed down (remember Darwin?). So, after sex, there's a better chance for fertilization if both man and woman relax and sleep, because it improves the chances of the sperm swimming to meet the egg. Think of gravity, if we jumped up and ran away, the sperm would more likely run out the vagina, lessening the chances for fertilization.

Bonus answer: Morning wood occurs b/c testosterone (male hormone) levels are highest in the AM, so you're more likely to have an erection then.

Hi again.

You're tired after masturbation because orgasm burns a lot of calories. As does exercise, which you would get tired after - yes? But yeah. That's not the only reason. And I'm not going to reexplain Sam's post: http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showpost.php?p=487064&postcount=5

I guess you just use up a lot of energy. I do it before I go to sleep too, and it helps me get right to sleep.
I dont know the reason for morning wood but I love waking up hard.

Okay there are a couple reasons why men get tired after orgasm.

Das first one is...the fact that it's usually at night! So you are already kinda sleepy.

Second is when you orgasm it kinda relaxes you because of the release of certain chemicals that can subsequently make you sleepy. Especially the hormone prolactin which is secreted when you orgasm. This chemical makes you sleepy (there is a strong correlation between amount of prolactin and sleep) ;) There are a couple other ones that relate to release of stress and sleep.

Morning wood (Actual name is uber super uber long) happens when you are in REM sleep (Rapid Eye Movement). It actually happens a couple times a night. However it is generally unknown why it's caused according to the references I checked

I find that jacking off requires a lot of energy to do. So i find that after you/me or any other guy is done or has had an orgasim that they just wanna fall asleep due to the excersie/or the work of jacking off

Women still have hormones that do these things.
