What makes it so wrong besides the fact that it's in the law book. If someone wants to sell their body shouldn't they be allowed to? I understand that the chances for STD's are high in prostitution but that's only because it's not regulated. You could easily regulate and make a pretty high profit from it so why not do it? Really though if I had the chance I would do it. What's your opinion.

Amsterdam has it pretty much down. I'm all for prostitution and would do it more often if it became legal.

How can prostitution be easily regulated?
From a moral standpoint, I don't think prostitution is right. But after all this is supposed to be a free society and people should be allowed to make their own choices.
I'd be ok with legal prostitution as long as minors are protected.

Agreed.
I'm morally against it, so I would never do it. But this is a free society, and as far as I know, it only hurts the people who are willingly doing it.
However, STD and sex awareness should be more taught.
The only thing I would be concerned about is children who are unintentionally brought into the world, then poorly taken care of.
I'm really against choice when it harms others, or when the person doesn't know or can't tell how badly it affects them because of clouded judgment. Prostitution potentially can be without either criteria, or with both, depending on how it's regulated.
So STD awareness and... something to prevent unwanted children, like mandatory condoms/birth control?
Somehow I'd be OK with it as long as it doesn't harm others or themselves unknowingly.

I am completely against prostitution.
1 Corinthians 6: 15-20 15Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh." 17But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit. 18Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. 19Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
The verse is pretty much self-explanatory. The Spirit of God is in you, your body is holy, and is not your own but God's so treat it as such.
Another reason yes STDs, but very importantly AIDS which gets spread from client to prostitute to everyone that the prostitute has sex with, which is not safe, and then if the client goes home and has sex with his/her partner then what? Again it's spread. And it's not fair.
There are places where prostitution is legal it's called a "gentleman's club" I don't agree with it at all, I think it's disgusting. However for the sake of the argument....you can have sex in one of these legal places, where the prostitutes are screened after every encounter for an STD.
So, yeah. And it is wrong morally, and spiritually. And screws up people mentally and emotionally.

Nevada has it set up right. All you need to do is to have certain places where it is legal, and have weekly checks for STD's. The customer must also be clean of any std so they wont' get it. You'll have to have an ID to even get in the place. Really though the only reason it's illegal is because of morality. If two people are consenting to have sex for money then they should be allowed to.

I dont agree with that because, if you havent realized but (some/most depends how you look at it) homosapians are not smart. Sex for money, should not be an exhange, in fact there should be no sex without love and a lifelong commitment, if that were so, AIDs would not be claiming so many lives and so many people wouldnt become infertile, and we'd see a decline in abandoned children, yes I am talking about the poor kids who have been given over to the Foster "care" system, not all parents are bad for giving them over, some really can't take care of them, but yeah.

Have the girls take birth control pills daily and morning after pills just in case. Also have the guys wear condoms. If a child is born still then they have to figure out what to do either they keep it, get an abortion, or give it up for adoption.

I personally have nothing against prostitution, as long as maintained under check. because the spreading of disease is not something i approve of.
But i do believe that we should have full control of what we do with our bodies, even if it is to exchange it for money.
the God argument, to me, pointless. I do not believe in God, so whatever he believes is sacred or not. I do not care for.
i guess the main issue is the unsafeness of it.
and i dont think children should consider it an option if they wanted to leave home or something. i would hate to hear this quote...
"I don't care. If i leave home i'll just prostitute myself, i'll get good money out of it. and i will never have to listen to my parents again."
it's not the right mentality. personally.

^^ He's right.
They sell themselves for sex then use the cash to buy drugs...
But that's not the case with all prostitutes... Especially those in escort services and those involved in legal prostitution.

That is not a good argument. If someone has a drug addiction they will do whatever it is they have to to feed it not just prostitute. A lot of people do it because they have no other way to pay the bills. Also isn't porn a form of legal prostitution?

As long as minors are not involved, then I'd be all for it. The issue of STDs is something that the person paying for the sex should be aware of, and if they get the STDs, well that's a perfect time to laugh at them. I don't find it to be the most appealing job, in fact, I find it rather disgusting because the person does not do something else to earn money and a living that is more honourable.
However, I'd say to legalize it for another reason: it could help the economy. One reason I see that may be to keep it illegal is that prostitutes are highly targetted by killers, abusers, etc... . It's also usable to exploit minors.
However, I'd still be more legalizing it.

I'm not comfortable with the whole idea of it, but if someone has no other way to earn enough money to feed themself would it be right for us to stop them?
What worries me is that a lot of girls, probably young boys too in some places, get forced into prostitution against there will. Also its very dangerous for the women involved in prostitution.
Its sad to think that anyone is such a loser that they want to have sex with a prostitute anyway. I never will.

OK, do you guys even know what happens "Behind the scenes" for prostitutes? Most prostitutes are working for a pimp, and trust me those pimps treat them like trash. They taser them, beat them, and alot of girls are practically black-mailed into prostitution.
Other than that, I'm ok with the whole sell your body for sex thing. It's their personal choice and as long as they keep check-ups for STD's and STI's.
The main reason I say "No" to prostitution is because some, I repeat, SOME of the women involved in prostitution are leading terrible and sad lives.

Prostitutes just eat, sleep and f***. They use resources and space and contribute nothing to society. They call it the world's oldest profession, but it's not a profession. They just have sex. I'm against it.

I'm against it because it's pointless, but whatever...might as well let everyone do whatever they want with their own bodies...might as well make all drugs legal too. I can't see how anyone would want to live their life as a prostitute. I know I wouldn't want to live with the risk of getting an STD, pregnant, raped, assaulted, or possibly murdered all in one night.
But, from a legal standpoint, there isn't any reason it should be legal besides the possible exposure to minors. Kind of like strip club being near schools and why minors aren't allowed in porn shops. The possibility of minors being involved with prostitutes is what I feel makes it illegal, since most prostitutes are out on the street, which is a public place. It also could lead to some kind of misconduct.

I agree with Thomas all the way. The only reason I don't like prostitution because of the risks of STD's or STI's. If we can ensure the safety of the customer and prostitute, I have no reason against it.

My idea is that if I want to sell my body, it's my own damn business.
Unfortunately, too many people get into it because of drug addiction.
It's a catch 22.

Just to stray off topic for a second, how are professional baseball players any different? Or soccer? Or basketball? Or any professional game player? Or Bach? Mozart? Any singer? What do they contribute?
Nothing except entertainment, which prostitutes could potentially provide.

Hey, it's your body, your life, you get cash... why the hell not? Regulate for things like STD/STIs and you're good to go. Plus, if you were doing it, you could always demand someone show you proof that they have no STDs, and then nothing can happen.
Would I hire a prostitute? Probably not, as I wouldn't throw away my cash there. Would I be a prostitute? If money is scarce, sure!

Think for a second; compare music to prostitution. Make a list or something, of all the similarities and differences, and see if they are really the same.

Um...well it's not actually buying and selling but yeah people donate organs and people recieve organs that are donated. It's not really selling but I'm not sure if there's a buying fee or something when recieving an organ.
