Sexually, it usually refers to someone 'testing' how sex/masturbation feels with another person of the same gender.

I think you can experiment with the opposite sex too. It means to try out some sexual activity, from mutual masterbation, through to full sex, with someone just to find out what its like, how it feels, whether you like it. It implies theres no love or lasting relationship involved, you're just trying things out.

It usually refers to playing aroung, mutual masturbation generally, with someone of the same sex but as I said, I dont think it rules out playing around with someone of the opposite sex.

seems like people think different things when they think of experimenting. i think it's when you do stuff with a person of the same sex if ur straight. but if u were gay and wanting to see what straight sex is like, that'd be experimenting too, wouldn't it? that's what i think.
