View Full Version : Anyone have any suggestions?

Well, I'm kinda bored with listening to the same songs over and over again (though that probably includes over a thousand songs lol)... So does anyone have any suggestions of a band they'd think I'd like?
I just want to hear something new and I'm too lazy to find a band on my own...
I prefer alternative rock/indie and I like what's classified as "emo" and I like experimental rock groups like Chronic Future and Blood Brothers. I pretty much like anything except for most rap (if you consider Flobots or Gorillaz rap though, I'm much in love with both bands) and most country (though I like some country songs, as I'm a big fan of lyrics, not just the sound). Other than that I'll listen to almost anything.
Though I'd prefer music from this century; its not that I have anything against classic music, far from it to be honest, its just that I like to follow bands that are still around and I like more of the modern sound anyway (though I am a big fan of most classic rock groups and I love Black Flag).
Here's an example of some of the bands I like: Action Action, Blaqk Audio, AFI, Silverstein,
Rise Against, Anti-Flag, NOFX, Flobots, Quietdrive, Cartel, Sugarcult, Gatsby's American Dream, Finch, Papa Roach, Gorillaz, Nonpoint, Sixx:AM, Senses Fail, Saves the Day, Bayside, The Bravery, Breaking Benjamin, No Motiv, The Cinematics, Cobra Starship, The Matches, The Crash Motive, The F-Ups, Foxboro Hottubs/Green Day, Linkin Park, Ludo, Franz Ferdinand, (Hed) PE,
Goodnight Nurse, Good Riddance, Lostprophets, Priestess, Sum 41, and The Zutons are some of the MANY, MANY bands I listen to. I just want something different (or the same).
I'll bold the bands I've really been into as of late to see if anyone knows any bands with similar sounds.

Wow, I haven't double posted outside of my diary since 2007, but Kerli is worth it.
Just letting you know I listened to Walking on Air and Love is Dead and wow, she has a voice. Thank you for letting me know about her. Her videos are pretty interesting too.

Go with Protest The Hero, or Cancer Bats.

I hate PTH's lead singer.
I've never heard of Cancer Bats; if they're anything like PTH I'm not interested.
I've actually heard of the majority of the bands you posted Doc., and as I stated, I'm not really interested in classics, though that's not to say I wouldn't mind listening to them.
And Jon, I know Seether.
And fifi, I've listened to almost all of Kerli's songs. She is pretty awesome. :) I'll check out Tarja Turunen, as I like Evanescence a little (they're certainly not my favorite band, but they're not bad).
And Marcie, I've heard of about half those bands, but even those I have heard of I don't know more than a couple songs by, so I'll look into all of those. :)
Thanks for the suggestions guys (and gals). 0.o :)

But yeah, I haven't really had the time to look into most of these bands, so I'll let you know what I think when I have the time to investigate them. Lol. 0.o

Adam, I like indie music/bands, too. If there's a 'progressive' rock station where you live, if there's a college run station, it's a good place to hear new material. My favorite station (indie) is WFUV.org, they play a lot of very new, and really good music from some real undiscovered talent. Check it out.

I'll definitely check it out. I have a relative in Richmond, and well, when I was there I discovered a very nice Alternative Rock/Indie radio station, but I just haven't had the time to visit their site that often (though I have multiple times in the past). Tbh I haven't been there in so long I forgot the name of the site (but not the name of the station, which is 101.1 Richmond [I think the word "Alternative" may be in there or something along those lines too]).

I also agree with most if not all Marshki's suggestions and Doc just gave a lot of really good ones too.

Modest Mouse is an extremely local band, so I know them; but other than Oasis and The Shins I don't believe I've heard of any of the other bands you listed. I'll be sure to check them out.

You might (keyword is might) like Hollywood Undead.
MisterMonster
June 26th, 2009, 02:50 PM
Muse
Radiohead
MGMT
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Lily Allen
Radiohead are the most emo, but Muse is indie, MGMT and Yeah Yeah Yeahs are electro/indie pop and rock. Lily Allen is a really good pop artist, listen to "It's not me, It's You"
the Rent Soundtrack
Rent is a musical with quite rocky stuff
MCR (I hate them, but they are emooooooo)
Rammstein
NIN
Rammstein is the only really good one there
There are others i'm forgetting, but if you get the chance listen to MUSE, MGMT, RADIOHEAD and LILY ALLEN.

So true.

Already love Hollywood Undead, Matt.
And I know all of those bands MisterMonster. Rammstein, NIN, and Radiohead are the only ones I really like though. I like SOME songs by Muse, MGMT, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and MCR. And I don't know anything off the top of my head by Lily Allen.
Though I know a girl addicted to Rent, so I know some of their soundtrack, and broadway music really isn't my thing, but it's not bad. It's just not something I'd really want to listen to for leisure.
Since I posted this thread I have found some pretty awesome bands though, and I shall start looking through this thread again shortly, because I need to find some new bands lol... Medic Droid, The Decemberists, and Chronic Future are my current addictions...
Bougainvillea

These bands are kind of different from the ones you named:
Neutral Milk Hotel
Belle & Sebastian
The Sea and Cake
Yo La Tengo
These bands you're probably going to like:
Brand New
The Get Up Kids
Scary Kids Scaring Kids
Taking Back Sunday
Sunny Day Real Estate
Rites Of Spring
GlassJaw
This is hip-hop that you might like:
A Tribe Called Quest
Lupe Fiasco
Blu or Blu & Exile(Exile is just the producer, Blu is the rapper)
The Roots (this is a hip-hop group that plays their own instruments)
Big L (He has lyrics that could be considered "degrading" and whatnot but his punchlines are sick so I dunno, you might appreciate it)

A friend of mine introduced me to Lupe Fiasco, and I have to admit, I like his lyrics, but he's not my 'favorite' artist. He's good nonetheless.
Of those first four, I've only heard of Yo La Tengo, and if the other three sound like them, then I'm not sure I'll like them, but I'll check them out anyway.
Of the ones in the middle, I've only heard of Brand New, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, and Taking Back Sunday. The others I will definitely check out though.
And A Tribe Called Quest and The Roots sound familiar, but I don't know anything by them off the top of my head. I shall check them and the other two 'hip hop' groups you mentioned though...
And if anyone knows any solid pop punk/rap rock/rock-electronica groups/etc. that's what I find myself very addicted to right now.

Heard of Chiodos and innerpartysystem. I've heard of The Prodigy, but I don't know anything by them off the top of my head.
I'm going to be honest here and say I'm not a big fan of innerpartysystem, but what I've heard from Chiodos, I do like.
EDIT: I backwardsed that... From what I've heard of innerpartysystem, I like, Chiodos, not so much. Their lead singer's just not that good.
