I learned in my health class that if you shave the hair around you private area you are creating micro tear in the skin there and that increases you chance to get a std.

you create micro tear wherever you shave but how much increase does it really have? It's most likely that you have only scratched the surface of your skin and doesn't really make that much of a difference.

Makes sense, never thought of it though.
Of course I assume it only increases your chances if you shave it recently before sex, before the tears can heal, right? Because all it's doing is opening up more places for STDs to enter the bloodstream.

I shave my 'area'. I'm sure it doesn't increase it by alot, or it would be on the news and stuff. I haven't heard of that once.

Didn't know that, but surely it isn't a permanent thing, after the tear heals i assume you are safe again.
