i have a problem with two laptops. the first one is that when i install a new program such as safari or opera it comes up with an error saying the file is corrupt. it is an old computer (thinkpad t41) but i cant get a new one. also, my dad has a toshiba tecra m5 from a few years ago but just recently whenever it boots up just after the toshiba screen it goes to a screen saying that the 'hal.dll' file is missing. there is no option to reatore it or no time to type in a command prompt. it doesnt have windows xp restore disks, would i be able to boot from an ubuntu live cd and copy the files to a memory stick? there are alot of questions here, but thanks!

If you want to make a backup of your files use: Windows XP Live USB Edition 2009 (This is not the complete OS, is only for u can backup ur files)

*And if u are planing in formatting ur pc u will need the win vista or xp cds
