Ok, so I just recently saw this short movie clip about whether the U.S. is a repubic or a democracy, and if you ask me the U.S. is really a republic. What do you guys think?
(Don't ask me what a republic or democracy are, look them up on google if you don't know what they are).

After looking them up on Wiki, I agree with you the US is more Republic than Democratical.

The United States was founded to be a Republic. The Founders weren't a fan of democracy because one of their main fears was tyranny from the majority over the minority.

Exactly, America is a republic.
Note the pledge of allegiance: "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all"

Umm, well officially our government is a Democratic Republic.
But obviously, our voices don't get heard to much, and the politicians have free reign basically, so I am going to vote Republick (yes im german now :P)

Well government is supposed to be bound by the constitution but they ignore it and no one seems to care.

It's both a representative democracy and a republic.
Our leaders are elected by the people and they are not chosen by heredity. Thus a representative democratic republic.

Just because it's not heredity, doesn't mean it's democratic.
Democracy is where the people decide everything.
Republic is where the people elect representatives to decide things for them.
So, whatever the "official" designation may be, we are a Republic by far, with very few democratic underpinnings, like the right to petition(and those pesky "initiatives"(Prop 8, I'm talkin' 'bout you!)).
I think a pure Republic(with no quasi-monarch like the President)would be better, because allowing democratic votes just lets the majority override law and oppress others or make very dumb decisions(i.e, average American IQ= lower than 'average'), and absolute power corrupts absolutely and whatever.
Wow. What a mess.

Republic.
There can never be a true Democracy because political figures are always going to be corrupt and lie just to get elected to a position of power, which means that they are not really representing the people who voted for them.
No, not ALL politicians are corrupt. But as long as we have politics, there will be corruption, and corruption easily throws Democracy out the window.
And yes, I know that all political ideologies are going to have corruption and problems of their own, but in my opinoin, the US is more of a Republic.
Definition of Republic:
A form of government whose head of state is not a monarch

I am not from US, but I agree that it is a republic, but it's better now when Obama is on Bush's place. I mean who even voted for that guy?
I wish I had the oportunity to kill him when he was in Zagreb,Croatia couple of months ago.... Oh yes, he was roughly 3 kilometeres away from me.....and I am not joking...

A true Republic has one house (usually a Senate) and each member is elected for life. The reason we are a Democratic Republic is because we elect our representatives in terms. That is what makes us democratic because if the People's voice is not heard, whoever is in power might not be re-elected.

If that were the case then we should have been able to vote on everything obama has done up until now.
yes america is a democracy but democrat and republic are just political parties of democracy.

Isn't this all just semantics? It doesn't particularly matter seeing as the context we're using 'Republic' and 'Democracy' here does not necessarily relate at all to either political party that happen to be by the same names.

Do you kow what a Republic is? It's a form of politicalk system. I'm not talking about democrat and republican, it's something totally different.
Here's the civeo but seeing as how this thread is old it might be locked but here's the video anyways.

America is a democratic republic in the fact that many issues are decided by referendum in most states but at federal level America is a republic..
I personally am more inclined to support direct democracy and thats why I admire many things about the United States' state governments, even if I totally disagree with the federal government(the way it is elected, the leaders at the top and the polarisation of politics)

Correlation is not causation. Global CO2 levels have begun to rise a hundred or so years ago. At the same time, the number of pirates in the seven seas has begun to decline. Therefore, a lack of pirates is responsible for Global Warming.
See the flaw in your argument?
