Hey everyone,
I am visiting two different boarding high schools next week. (I am still in seventh grade, just am gonna be in the area so we are visiting.) So I get to stay overnight in the dorms and everything. any way while I'm there are there anythings I should be looking for, questions I should be asking? also, anything I should do to to impress teachers and stuff?

When you're looking, make sure the school is something that fits your needs. Everybody is going to have different wants/needs, so there's no one thing you should look out for. In general, just ask lots of questions and make sure the place has a friendly air to it.

You shouldn't do anything to 'impress' teachers, as it won't help if you're not being yourself. If you give them false expectations of you, and the dash those expectations, it won't end up any better for you. Just be yourself, really.

Hiya Caleb!

First, do NOT try to 'impress' anyone, who knows what they're looking for, and you could come off looking like a jack ass. Just be yourself, which frankly is impressive enough.

The best advice when looking at a prospective environment, like boarding school or college, is to look at a couple of things: First, does it meet your academic needs, does it offer the classes and the curriculum and the quality of instruction that you need, and also, is the social environment consistent with your social/emotional needs. The best way to determine that is to see how you 'feel' being there and talking with the other kids. Does it 'click' for you, or is there something that seems different?

So, look for the academic 'fit', as well as the social 'fit' and you'll be Ok, and just be yourself.

Good answer above me! People make the mistake of forgetting that you don't just learn there, you LIVE there. Staying over night should be great. If you think you could live there then thats a great sign, but remember, you can't expect everything to feel right straight away, just look for some small indications of whether you'd like it or not... FOOD is important as well, or maybe thats just me!

Other than 'don't drop the soap' thats pretty much it :P

Reputation is important when choosing a boarding school. What do students and their parents who have been associated with the school have to say? Unbiased referrals are an important gauge when making a choice.

i basically live at my school all year so if i cant help then your screwed lol

Firsty, im guessing your 12, (i know someone in 8th grade and they are 13) so you wont have much say apart from which one you like most am i correct?

dont try to impress anybody, just be yourself. dont show off, there will always be somone with more than you. Make friends, the contacts you make at these school 9/10 make it to good places. Try and get a feel of the school enviroment. see what you prefer to the other e.g. does one have better extra activities?

as somone said above, reputation means everything. im not sure what boarding schools are like in the USA but in the UK reputation is everything. if you go to E.G. fettes, you will be looked at better than if you went to beaconhurst. Eton over st Bees. thats how it usualy works.

Go for the school you prefer, what school you think will be more fun.
