ok...i am atm sick...and at home...
i was wondering...is there a proven difference between laying in bed, awake, and playing a computer game?
Dad expects me to just lay in bed all day...even though he knows that i wont be able to sleep...would it really make that much difference if i was trying to sleep instead of on the computer?

Declan, I think there's two issues here. The first is the q you asked about the medical diff btw'n lying in bed awake and bored, and lying in bed, awake and entertained. And the answer to that is there's probably not a diff. Unless there's some sickness which affects your mind (really!), keeping it occupied can't cause a problem. But , the other issue is probably your dad's expectations and what you do when you disagree with them (yeah, I know, I'm always so psychological).
With regard to the latter, look at this as an opportunity to work on communication and consensus (agreement). I suspect that you dad believes that if you 'rest', you'll get stronger and be able to fight whatever little nasty you've got now, and that 'rest' means inactivity. Your task here would be to explain to him what's actually wrong with you, where the nasty seems to be localized, and that it doesn't involve your brain. However, by acknowledging his concerns, maybe you could then work on a compromise, maybe snoozing for part of the day, and being online/video/computer for other times.
