so tonight I was starting my seedlings for the year. so me and my dad had a discussion about organic farming. so anyways he was saying that organic farming couldn't be implemented on a large scale. so of course I though "I'll show him" so I thought I would try and get as much out of my garden as possible. do you think this is a valid thing to do or am I just being petty?

More power to you if you can do it. Organic farming isn't really that hard to do, you just have to be dedicated. :) Lots of weeding, mainly. And picking bugs off plants.

Thanks! and I have my ways of keeping weeds down so that won't be a huge problem

Sounds like a cool little project you have there! Go for it! With dedication it should be good :)

Your reaction to him, of needing to "Show" him, indicates the issue here isn't so much about large scale horticulture, but rather some competitive issues between you and your dad. So, although experiencing the joys and pains of large scale organic gardening is laudable, it doesn't really address the issue between you and your dad: That you feel somehow diminished by him.
Maybe if you could address that part more directly ("Dad, you know, it really bothers me when you put down something I'm doing"), you could more easily enjoy the project itself for what it offers, rather than meeting some obscure (and totally unrelated) emotional need that stems from your relationship with your dad.
