about 2 months ago my lip split open from being chapped and high winds. It hasn't healed.I've been putting blistex on it multiple times a day, and every morning when i go to eat something, i open my mouth and it splits again and starts bleeding. What should I do?

I'm guessing blistex is like carmex? I think carmex is a bit stronger and probably worth trying, but I've never used blistex.

Split lips are really bad. The tissue is very delicate, and the muscles under it are very strong, so it doesn't take much to split, and when it does, it takes forever to heal.

The solution is lots of Vaseline JELLY, and be extra mindful to NOT open wide (I'm serious!), be really careful to not make any exaggerated lip movements whch woud stretch the delicate tissue there. Keep this up for a few weeks and it will heal just fine.

I was going to say the same thing. Just use Vaseline it will work keep applying it to the lips as needed. It is best to make sure that you keep your lips moist. Carmex and blistex are not very good to use.

Carmex actually works wonders for me....just saying. I was going to suggest Vaseline as well, but I wasn't sure about it since I've never used it.

I agree with the Vaseline suggestion. If you're not already, make sure to actually keep some chapstick or carmex in your pocket. Vaseline doesn't tend to come in cute little pocket-sized containers (...or does it?) but you do need to keep something on that lip at all times. I know you said you were using the Blistex a lot, but I didn't know if that meant that you carried it with you or not.

For the breakfast bleeding issues, try putting on a generous amount of Vaseline when you get up, and give it some time to soak in before you eat. Dry skin breaks easier, so a little extra moisture might help it a bit. Doing the same thing at night before bed can help, too. And NEVER lick your lips. If you get the urge, put on some chapstick instead.

hey guys! Thanks for the help! I ended up going to the doctors, and he recommended I get Cortate, which has cortazone in it. Apparently that'll heal it. I'm also doing contrary to your guys' suggestions and exercising my lip, as if i let it heal un-flexed, if i ever open wide again ti will split.

I think you should stop using blistex and use something differnet because if it hasn't helped it since then, it probably wont do much. I reccommend using something similar to it, like carmex or petrolium jelly. Then make sure you don't use your lips as much and see if you can drink with a straw when possible. Then its a waiting game, spring is here so that might help as the warmth brings a little more moisture
