They're pretty much the same thing. Windows 7 got some tweaks to make it a little faster and stable. but thats pretty much it. I hate both. If it wasn't for DX10 I would be back on XP

I am using XP, and really despise Vista. The main reason I hate Vista is the constant UAC prompts you get before you do ANYTHING (2 popped up when I tried to rename a file). Fortunately Windows 7 has a lot less UAC prompts, as well as being faster and more stable. So those things along with the ever-flashy Aero theme have pretty much convinced me to get Windows 7 when it is released.

What do people have against Vista? I've been running it for months and I haven't gotten any UAC prompts since the first day or two.

I've only tried Windows 7 in the pre-beta stages. All I can say it is a lot better then Vista was in the same stages.

I've never had a problem with Vista running on 64-bit. I used to hate it, but that was with 32-bit. I always turn UAC off, and it's pretty quick. The main thing I hate is how it eats RAM. I have 4GB ram and when first booted up (only AVG and side-bar running on top of Vista) it uses around 1.4GB of that RAM.

I'm in no hurry to try Windows 7 again yet. Vista is fine for now and I think Windows 7 should be a lot better when it's closer to release. It's more than just a tweaked version of Vista.

Ah, well, our family has had a horrible experience with vista (my dad's pretty tech savvy, too), so my view is a little tainted. I have not tried windows 7, because my computers can't handle that. But really, I think Windows 7 is unwarranted. If they are getting rid of Vista that quickly, they should have just went back to XP, (which rocked) and released some major upgrades for it. The only reason they keep releasing new OS's is because they're freakin greedy.

Anyway, so the Vista we have pretty much sucks, and I'm not giving more money to Microsoft, so I'm going to refuse to buy it until the day XP is completely dead. (And when that happens I'm goin' back to Linux).

Let's not talk about those law-breaking activities :)

I'd say 7 has far greater potential than Vista ever had. I've been running 7 Beta 1 for months now and I've yet to really have any problems. Far better than Vista was, even at RTM.

it will be, it runs faster (get built 7022 on bittorrent, better than 7000 the one they released) already, and i use vista on my imac, have an open mind. i hated it too thats why i got an imac after i had a dell, now im back on wintel soon to be running osx86 on my custom built machine (i already had it working, but now it got screwed up and im on windows vista again.) anyways, it will be. woo 11 posts in under 11 mins!

By all accounts Windows 7 is going to be a good O/S, I am currently using XP Professional but I'll definitely consider getting Windows 7, especially if Microsoft reconsider their pricing strategy.

The only think I dont like about 7 is that Microsoft going to split it to 7 different version. Why dont they keep it like XP 3 version. Pro , Home , Media

Haha, they only want you to buy their best version and make more money

Yes, that's EXACTLY why they're creating seven versions (With two main versions), so you only buy the BEST one. If they only wanted you to buy the best one, they'd only release 1 version.
They're creating seven versions so you can get what your computer can handle. There's no sense putting 7 Ultimate on a netbook, now is there?

Why don't you turn off the UAC then?

In my case, I'm using Vista and runs just fine. Sometime my programs crash ,though :(

Is Windows 7 system requirement is lower than Vista?

Pretty much the same:
(Please note that these requirements are for the Ultimate editions of both Vista & 7, and may not reflect the requirements of 7 at launch)

System Requirements for Windows 7
With the RC, Microsoft is also providing guidance on the minimum system requirements for Windows 7, showing that Windows 7 will work on a broader array of hardware than any other release of Windows at launch:
• 1GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
• 1 GB of RAM (32-bit)/2 GB of RAM (64-bit)
• 16 GB of available disk space (32-bit)/20 GB (64-bit)
• DirectX 9 graphics device with Windows Display Driver Model 1.0 or higher driver

Windows Vista Ultimate recommended system requirements:
•1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
•1 GB of system memory
•40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
•Support for DirectX 9 graphics with:
◦WDDM Driver
◦128 MB of graphics memory (minimum)
◦Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware
◦32 bits per pixel
•DVD-ROM drive
•Audio output
•Internet access (fees may apply)

Windows Vista Ultimate minimum requirements:
Minimum supported system requirements
***Certain product features are not available with minimum supported requirements.***
•800 MHz processor and 512 MB of system memory
•20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
•Support for Super VGA graphics
•CD-ROM drive

Vista is really nice-looking and works well. It does seem more error-prone than XP or earlier versions were. I think Vista was just released too soon. 7 looks pretty cool from the publicity pics.

If you are a programmer such as myself, you know how much of a pain in the ass vista is. It has constant stability issues, and compatability issues. Windows 7 is keeping the same style of vista, but eliminating most of the issues that vista has. Can't wait for its official release!

I'm running both on my laptop right now and I prefer vista i can actually do things on that instead of it saying my video card isn't compatible.
