That's a render, not a .psd. And how do u get color out of space? [Space being a factor of area and not hue.]
And if I did with that render, the sig would look NOTHING like it does above.

.psd stands for Photoshop Document, ask the original creator of that sig if they have the .psd file for the sig.
The .psd file allows someone to open the sig and make minor changes since it saves all the layers and adjustments whereas a .png file only saves a flat image, thus making individual changes much much harder.

Even though that's a free sig, I'm not entirely sure I could replicate that effect. O.o To each sig maker his own style, that's a kind of style I've been taught to avoid and vaguely remember how to do. :/

Thank you, and yes, once I started adding my light sources the fireworks scene became the basis of this sig. xDD
Most of my lighting brushes are "heavenly" light brushes, so it became a headache trying to dig through all of the brushes for the right effects.

Anyway, I edited the .psd a little because IMO the original lacked depth. :D
I get bored, and sigs like yours and my metroid, I become addicted to and edit them till I see them as near to perfect as I can make them.

My old sigs would be a mix of smudging the render and using C4Ds.
My new style thought still smudges the render, though not as much, but it replaces C4Ds with light source or light effect brushes. Sometimes I include C4Ds, this one, I did not.

Also: Saving works fine for me in IE7. O.o

Proportions are your length and width. Your first image looks rather "square" whereas MOST (I say most because it all depends on the creator) sigs are more of a rectangle shape. Usually having a large width and not so large height. ALL of my sigs have adapted VT's restrictions of 400x125 which just so happens to be a GREAT sig proportion. :)
And as for my images:
The first was made in PaintshopPro I think 2years ago? O_o Maybe more, I'm not sure. I just saw someone with a sig and decided to make my own with NO knowledge of PSP or how to make sigs. xDD
Yeah- text, darned thing. :/

I love the simplicity in your GFX thing though. o_O

You should revise : Links Steampunk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steampunk) and CyberPunk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberpunk)

If you are adding tech brushes and what not. You have to use blue+Silvery coloration to make it tick.

But you used orange, in Orangy+green(Copper) theme, try using gears and cloclworks to the art.

But all in all, they are good. Rep+ coming up.

You should revise : Links Steampunk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steampunk) and CyberPunk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberpunk)

If you are adding tech brushes and what not. You have to use blue+Silvery coloration to make it tick.

But you used orange, in Orangy+green(Copper) theme, try using gears and cloclworks to the art.

But all in all, they are good. Rep+ coming up.

How do you "do" a render?
Well, first you would need a decent photo editing software such as Photoshop, GIMP, or Paintshop Pro. There are other rendering programs but as far as I'm aware they aren't very mainstream and could be rather annoying to try and find.
But to "do" a render I'm going on the assumption that you mean to "make" a stock image into a render.
Before explaining that, I'll explain what a render is since Jeff asked. A render is really just some special name for a cut-out image. Quite literally it is just an image cut from another and placed on a transparent background.
To make a render is really quite simple.
First you would open the image you want to cut in one of the previously mentioned programs.
Next, you would create a "new layer" and position it under your base layer.
Now move back up to your photo layer.
After that you would use one of the many select tools to cut around the image (the more anchors, the more accurate).
After making a FULL selection around your image you would hit ctrl+I (Or Selection > invert) to invert your selection.
Once inverted simply hit your delete key and save the image as a .png file.
Render done.

@Tyger: No, not really, CS5, CS4, or CS3, the fact remains that I simply hate making renders. :)

But as a personal opinion, I don't like it the way you kept the whole left side empty with black. Also, the border is overly exaggerated - and the shadow is annoying.

I like it, but could you possibly change the (word has zoned out from me for not using Photoshop in forever) on the Perseus? It's kind of hard to read. But it's snazzy.

With the new VT sig rules (Which are explained here (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=60714)) members can no longer have BBCode signatures which prevents you from just copying my code and adding it to your sig. However it allows off-site upload DO NOT use this. Instead save the signature to your hard drive (Right click > Save Image as) and reupload this via your hard drive in the "edit signature" (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/profile.php?do=editsignature) section of your User Control Panel (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/usercp.php).

Why? Volunteer work is get what you get. I don't only make sigs on VT, that would be way too many PSDs.
