Hey its me again for advice in exercising and i was wondering if swimming is a good exercise and if it can get you abs, as some of you might have read already on my previous topics that ive wanted to exercise for a long time to get abs and look good (=D). Anyway i already wrote the questions at the beginning, but ive got another one for those who are in a swim team or something, do you masturbate after each lesson with someone else? i mean, like a tradition or something cuz i dont know if they do that over here (mexico yet again xD) and if they do id like some answers how to face it. Ive always liked swimming but ive never gotten a chance to practice it properly and im really thinking about joining swim classes or something.

Thanks to all in advance!

:/? waddaya mean? what i meant is that if you do THAT after a lesson with a friend or something, as far as i know or read or blah blah blah is that sometimes in other sports the team does circle jerks thats what im asking. Plus if swimming is a good way to exercise.

I know you make it a point to remind us you're Mexican, but having been to your fair country I can say with some confidence that upper middle class people there are very similiar to the people here in the US, and elsewhere, ftm. So, I do NOT think that group masturbation is a regular (or even irregular) part of team sports. If some guys do this, I'm sure it's private, not locker room/team stuff.

Swimming is great exercise for arms and shoulders and legs, less so for abs. And, the water acts to keep you bouyant, takes your body weight off as you're exercising, which minimizes and practically eliminates fatigue and stress caused by gravity. Pool exercises are actually THE choice of doctors and physical therapists because of this!

Swimming keeps you fit, works out most major muscle groups, and is a lot of fun, too. If you want to add exercise specifically for abs (stomach), try sit ups.

Swimming is really good cardio. It works out your heart and helps with coordination.
Other that your heart and lungs, swimming doesn't do anything else signifigant. They don't really help your abs and such like you would think. I would suggest wrestling or...some other hard core sport where you work your abs out a lot

Have you ever swam competitalvy?
Wrong. If you swim more than free(crawl for thoes who don't understand the terms) then you ARE getting a workout

Butterfly is hard.

Competitively? No. Learned how to swim in basically all types. Yes.

Umm, I don't think your abs are getting worked out to the point that you will get ripped from swimming. Sure your body is getting worked out. Youre excersising, etc, but, other that is not the workout that I would do to get abs.

have you seen michael phelps?
Totally not abby. They suck :P

This is not correct.

Swimming is good cardio, and it's an excellent aerobic workout generally. In addition to working on heart and lung function, it's an excellent upper body and pect workout, as well as glutes (Tush). And, because your weight is suspended in the water, the stress caused by the pull of gravity which is normally associated with heavy aerobic workouts is minimized. This allows you to work out much more with less risk of injury.

1. Knowing all 4 strokes and competing are two different things.
2. For your second part, i'm gonna refer you to Sam,
an add that with anything, it takes time

comment: you can still get injured in swimming, it's just harder to. Unfortunately, most injuries you get are bad. But, it's unlikely you'll get hurt :D

I'd have to say that the most common severe injury in swimming would probably be hitting your head against one of the walls... ouch...

On another note, me likey swims!

swimming is a great way to tone up and to build up upper body muscle...it can improve your stamina massively.
Also it has been proven to have many medical benefits, like treating asthma and chest infections (trust me i've had personal experience).
