But I love the sciences and for as long as I can remember I've always wanted to become an astronaut. Now I know this is a daunting process but I have my future all planned out. I'm just embarrassed about telling anyone about it because it is so daunting and seems so unlikely, but this is my all time dream/lifetime goal.

Go for it! Pursue your dream. But, as you've correctly noted, you've selected a profession that is very difficult to achieve, so it's equally important to simultaneously pursue something else that is more attainable.

It would be a very hard career to obtain, so perhaps think of a back-up plan(s) if it doesn't work out. This isn't to say that it won't work out, just that if it doesn't, you're not left wondering what to do.

I know... it's real hard but my backup would still consist of something in the astronomical/engineering field

Lol, I know this is late, but rock on, astornomy is the shit..
When I go to college, Im going to get my Ph.d in astronomy or either Physics.
