Help Reading Body Language

typicly, i suck at reading body language and can be a bit oblivious.
well,i could make this a disgustingly long story full of drama and suspense, but i'll just get to the main question.

when a guy greets you and bends both his arms at the elbows off to the side and a little forward does that mean he's going up for a hug, or is it just a gesture?

it seems like you're reading a little too much into the situation? Guys don't think about every movement they do, so i think he wasn't moving in for a hug. If he was, you would know it.

Ya I agree with ^^ here. Or he may just be stretching lol! You never know though.

Well, it differs from guy to guy.
I know for one, that if I did that, it would be completely intentional, and it would be a gesture towards a hug. A lot of people I know do that also.
But some guys, like said above, might not even be conscious of it.

Either way, if they are your friend, I doubt they wouldn't like a hug! :D

could be. but honestly body language is not about one part of the body, but rather the movement as a whole.

i couldn't tell you exactly if he wanted to hug you, but it is a possibility

I guess maybe i don't fully understand the movement we're talking about here...is it like a partial stretch-like movement? Because i figured if he was going in for a hug, it would've been all the way.

Well, who knows, eh? Sounds at the very least he was 'opening himself up' to you, maybe in anticipation fo a hug, maybe just to express some warmth at seeing you.

It's a mistake, however, to assume that if he wanted to hug you, he would have. Body lingo goes both ways, so if he was gesturing to you that he was 'open', and you failed to respond with a similiar gesture, then he would have stopped right there. So, while you're interpreting his gesture, think of what yours was, too. Both could be equally revealing.

he might have been stretching or trying to make himself look bigger and show his muscles lol but ya . dont be so focusd on it..its better to just go with the flow..usually body language is pretty obvious..you know when you know..you know??? if that makes any sense at all lolol:what:

it's kindof arms out and to the side/downish. like diagonal. but this accompanyed a "hey you" so i think next time he does it, i'll just give him a hug and if he freaks out, i'll just say something about how i'm so glad to see you. sound like a plan?
or would i be better off going for a slow and carefull goodby type thingy? that would be safer and more awakward in equal amounts i think.

does he do this often? or was it a one time thing? if he does it alot then it is probably just something that he does. and if he acted a little...idk....strange? embarrased might be a better word, then he most likely was trying to give you a hug. do u like this guy?
