Depending on how long ago the cuts were made, and how deep they were, they may or may not fade with time. Either way, though, it takes time. Most scars fade over time, although the tissue type here typically is very slow fading.

In the mean time, you can try one of the OTC scar fading creams available, or even some moisturizer. In the worst case scenario, a plastic surgeon can do his magic to successfully remove them.

As IAMSAM said, it all depends on how long they've been there though. Some scars take years to fade, and unfortunately some don't fade at all.

I wouldn't usually recommend plastic surgery (not that I've had it myself), because I've heard that sometimes the scars left from the surgery can be worse than the original ones.

Try Bio-Oil; it costs quite a bit in some places, but according to most people it works really well on scars =]

yes, it's against the rules to post pics of scars, or cuts

like sam said, scars DO take awhile to heal over. I beleive skin is 'renewed' every six/seven years (meaning it's all newer skin cells. don't ask how that one's calculated.)

I do beleive you when you say they're purple.
It will fade to white eventually. How recent are these, because if it's less than about a month, the skin might not have even totally healed over

the scars are 4 months old =(

Wow..

Okay, well if it's NOT healed i'd be more concerned.

You probably just scar badly. everyone's different.
all i can sugest is that you do like sam says and look for the various creams/lotions to help reduce the look

They will at least fade, I have a few deep ones I did almost a year ago now and they are very close to gone.
Most very deep ones never go.
Try aqueous cream, Its slow working but it helps somehow.
Its also quite cheap, I got mine from the doctors for eczema.

 Don't worry they'll fade in time!

They're easier to fade away than burns are, I still have two very clear burn marks on my wrist from a whole year ago :( it sucks.

This may sound crazy, but try using make-up, like foundation or something. I bet you $50 it will work, I've never actually tried it myself but still, it could actually be useful :)

I have those purple scars too.. But after half a year the not so deep ones were fading to white. (=

You should really consider buying some bio-oil. It's worked for me on fading all of my coloured scars to white. It seems like a big expense, but it really works.

I've cut myself.. they're.. 5 months old or so, (Well the not deep ones) and they are still seeable. My dad cut himself as a kid, and he had them at 36.. So, i'd think they might never go away unless you get a surgery/stuff that reduces it.

Big scars do not go away by themselves. No matter how long you wait. small ones can partially dissapear.

it is maybe even better to cut them away and stitch properly it they are big and ugly.
if skin is well aligned without gap it leaves no scars.
that is quite complex procedure to fix scars. But if they are on your leg (not arm) you may try to fix them during next cutting session :)
of course you need to learn how to do that at frst.

Are you advocating cutting over scars as a method to reduced their appearance? Because I am telling you now, it doesn't work. It just makes them a whole lot worse!

while we are on the topic can i just ask that if you pick the scabs off the scars, like i nearly always do, will they stay for longer??/

If you have scabs then they are wounds, not scars.
Yes, picking off scabs does prevent them from healing quickly. It also makes them larger and deeper which increases the likelihood of getting a nasty scar.

ahh that sucks :(.
I nearly always pick the scabs so usulaly the scars stay :s

Actually, picking off scabs helps them heal faster. That's why animals chew at scabs, in order to heal them faster. The only repercussions of picking at scabs is that you'll have big, nasty scars after they heal. That's generally why scabs itch, it's your body's natural reflex to pick off the scab in order for faster healing.

No, it isn't. By picking scabs you are interfering with the body's attempts to heal and as such, they take longer to heal.

I'm sorry, I have to disagree on you here. Through my research, the only consequences I've found is that it makes one more susceptible to diseases (reasons for scabs, to prevent bacteria and viruses from getting in) and increased scarring. Of course, if you don't let it scab over at all, then you're interfering with the healing process and then you're SOL; picking at scabs that have already formed, however, is different. However, this is what I've found through research and interviews.

picking scabs open has only lead to worse scarring, and infection for me.

seriously, don't.

I know from personal experience that picking does prolong the healing process. By picking off a scab you are removing one of the things the body uses to heal itself and therefore by picking you are interfering with wound healing.
Here are two good sources that state clearly that scabs should be left alone. To speed up the healing process you can use creams like germolene and savlon.

Okay, okay. I'm going to give up on this one because if I don't, I'm going to get incredibly competitive and fight with anyone until someone says that I'm right or I end up bring so frustrated that I cut myself. :)
Although, picking for me has never prolonged it. My last scars are all healed up now and that was, what, last week? Anyway, whatever. S'all good. :)

Sorry for coming on strong. But when I know something is true then I do end up really pushing my point :)

Join the club, but I tend to get overly emotional and I get really angry. I'm trying to quit that, so I'm avoiding arguments.
Honestly, I thought you we're right at first, but then so many people I had asked were like, "No, you're wrong." Then I was just confused, so I picked a side, hoping that someone would argue it so I could hear both sides effectively. (Found sites that supported both, so I couldn't really base it on research.)

It will work. I have (had? It's gone now....) a scar on my wrist from getting cut by a tree branch a while ago, and for a while while it was still yucky looking I took some cover up to lessen the appearance. Just make sure it matches your skin tone. It worked quite nicely while I did it.

Marcie posted that forever ago, but I just read that. :)

I totally need to start doing that.
