Is it my period?

ok i was telling my friends that a couple of days ago, i thought i had a blatter infection. instead of getting my normal whitish discharge i got poo colour. it lasted somewhere betwen 3-5 days. but it went away. when i told my friend they said it was my period and the blood dried up and turned brown. but i completly disagree. like its really poo coloured brown. so what do you think it was? and do you think it is my period, and that it will return. help! thx :P

yes it is your period, when a girl starts her period it can start like that.

A bladder infection will not leave discharge in your panties. It typically causes a burning sensation when urinating and/or makes it difficult to pass urine, but nothing ever ends up oozing into your panties.

Your friend was probably right. It's not uncommon for your first period to be brown rather than red. It's just "old" blood, which you'll commonly see a the very beginning or very end of your periods, or when your period is just very light. Once you get more regular, and your body gets used to going through the process, the blood will tend to be more of the reddish color you'd expect. This "old" blood also tends to be a little thicker than the fresh red stuff, for some reason, so that would also explain why this stuff may not have been very runny like blood should be. Yes, I've had this happen before, and this is what it is.

Yes, it will happen again, but it probably won't be next month. It's very common for a girl to skip a few months (maybe even several) after her first period. After your first few it should get a bit easier to predict your next one, but don't expect to be totally regular for a few years. I suggest talking to your mom, and picking up some pads and keep a few in a ziploc bag in your backpack. Since you may not know when your next one is coming, it's nice to be prepared even if it turns out to be light.

yes, it is normal. and it will happen at the beginning and/or end of each period.

yes it is brown, and it has look like poop. it is completely normal.

ok thank you guys soooo sooo soo much. and btw im actually kind of excited. all my friends are very developed ( but there also a bit older...some of them anyway) but at least now i feel a bit better lol.

Haha, this reminds meof a convo I had ith a gal pal a while back.

We were talking about how we were embarrassed when we first started our periods because we thought we'd pooped ourselves without realising or something :P

Tbh, I didn't tell anyone about it because I was SUPER embarrassed... I didn't even begin to think that it could be my period... In fact, it wasn't until a month or so later that I realised :whoops:

:rolleyes: Don't worry hun. Like the others have said, it's pretty much definitely your period. So, congratulations! I suggest talking to your mother or maybe an older sister or any older female that you're comfortable talking with about it. They can start you off on the basics, like buying sanitary towels and how to expect when you'll [roughly] come on next - although it could be sometime before you get them regularly...
