I think it could just be me being neurotic, but her goes.

I keep hearing this REALLY annoying ringing in my ear. Its in the background, not loud or disturbing, but nonetheless annoying. However, when I block my ears, there's silence.

There was a permanent, obvious ringing months ago, because I had listened to my music with volume on full. For a whole day I couldn't hear anything in my right ear. Its basically my right ear that has the problem, as well. I don't think it can be tinnitus, but I really don't know if its actually a problem, or if its my mind thinking its there, but it actually isn't. Its annoying cos whenever I hear it, I get real stressed and think there's something drastically wrong....

It isn't a blockage either, and it seems to go away if I don't think about it, i'm listening to something, but when i'm listening to some things it comes back, like an accompaniment to it.

Help!!!

Chronic ringing in the ears.........the kind that's always there and interferes with auditory clarity can be caused by a lot of things, and should be checked out by a doctor. Either an inner ear infection or some kind of auditory nerve issue can be the culprit.

If you listen to loud music or are exposed to loud noise over a period of time, ringing can result, but it usually subsides, unless there's permanant damage.

If the ringing is new, if there's been some change in the loudness, intensity, or if it's accompanied by pain, you should see your doc.

OK thanks.

Basically, sometimes it's not there at all, then occasionally it'll be like it gets louder according to the loudness of the sound. The first time I got it, I stopped listening to loud music on my head phones, and haven't at all since, but the first time, it was like I could feel it, and it hurt, but then it just went away a feew hours after I woke up. But if I think 'oh it's not there' it sometimes comes back, but sometimes doesn't....

So should I go see a doctor, just in case?

A general rule of thumb is that if something bothers you a lot, is new, or gets worse, a check by the doc is always a good thing.

In your case, certainly avoiding those things that could aggravate the condition (like listening to loud music with 'phones) should be avoided.

I think most cases of this clear up if you use some common sense and stay away from exposure to concentrated, loud music.

sounds like tinnitus from what you have said about your music being loud.

I get the same thing too o.O

Sometimes it'll be VERY loud and high pitches or sometimes VERY loud and low pitched. All I know is that I can't concentrate for shit when it happens.

It is tinnitus, I think - I get it quite a bit after I've listened to loud music, but tinnitus is always high pitched, so if it's lower-pitch sometimes then I'm not quite sure =p

sorry if this like hasn't helped at all xD

Now it seems to be when listen music, a certain beat sounds like a high pitched beep... i'm being pedantic, right? The music's on fairly quiet... I only noticed it about 2 hours ago, but the music was loud on the speakers...

Do ear problems like ringing clear up at all? Or are they all permanent?
