Ice breaker:
Ok, I just watched porn and I feel like horrible. My impluses told me to so I did. Every time I watch porn I get this sinking feeling in my stomach that something will go wrong. And most likely something wrongs does happen. I'm Catholic and it is told that Porn is adultery and masturbation is bad because masturbation feeds into temptation. Jesus wants us to resist temptation so masturbation is embracing it which is a double negative in the Catholic religion. I feel porn is no good but I do not know my religious views on it because I'm not a religious Catholic.

if your not a religios catholic why are u bothering with the churches teachings. They also say that God flooded the world and killed all the people when murder is wrong.
Plus adultery is sex with someone you are not married to and since your not hving sex how can it be adultery

I'm really sorry, but it isn't all catholics that say he flooded the world.... i don't think that... please can people stop stereotyping all catholics together? We have our own minds you know!!

Anyway, we are taught that God is all loving... We are also taught that God created everyone... With people like osama binladen to occupy his time, do you think a loving God is going to care that you masturbate? No... neither do I lol.

Porn isnt a good thing though, exploitation of women and all that. Maybe its not your religion that is the problem, maybe its your conscience... masturbate without porn for a bit and see if that helps :)

I think porn is bad, but not for religious reasons. I don't like it mainly for morality reasons. Plus porn is all fake. The "actors" in porn all basically have STDs and such, you just can't see it because of computerization. I don't think watching porn is bad, I just think making porn is horrible. So, if I think making it is bad, then I guess watching it is just feeding pornographers to make more.

Faulty logic... watching porn only encourages more production of porn if you're actually buying the porn, which isn't likely for almost anyone on this forum. There is no market effect if the goods are acquired outside of the price mechanism, as in this case.

I'd like to hear your morality reasons for porn being wrong, as well. What is wrong about filming someone doing something sexual, as opposed to varied other types of acting/filming?

My feelings behind why it is morally wrong are probably faulty too.

I've just heard stories from behind the scenes. Were the maybe exaggerated by religious people, I don't know, I really don't know many religious people. American and possibly UK made porn isn't as bad, but stuff made in Eastern Europe and Russia is for the most part forced. If you don't think forcing boys and girls into making porn is wrong, that's pretty sick.

I think it's very wrong. There's lots of fucked up porn in the world - but that doesn't make all porn fucked up. See how that works?

Further, though I am sure there is some degradation in the porn industry, it seems to me that these stories you've heard - that porn is mostly created by forced labor - are... not quite accurate. Possible, certainly, but I somehow doubt a majority is made in conditions of slavery.

Even if you're right and what you have described is the case, that still wouldn't make the porn made in America that people buy immoral, would it?

I understand what you're saying, and maybe I am wrong. I just really don't like porn and it's certainly not for a religious reason. I admit that I watch it, which is hypocritical, but I really don't like it still.

I couldn't agree more. If they choose to do it, it's not exploitation. And what about gay porn.... lol.. no women involved. So saying 'Porn is an exploitation of woman' is wrong because porn categorizes different types of porn.
Porn > Gay
Porn > Straight
Porn > Bi
Porn > Lesbian
So the first one has nothing to do with women... just saying..

I'm confused... you claim to be catholic but only non-religious catholic? If you don't follow it then I don't see the religious issues.

thePianoMan, yes some porn is forced, some is more physically harmful to the people involved, however, in North America, the actors are of legal age and they have given consent; after or before the video, they present the disclaimer of this. There may be acting of being forced, but it is still overall willing (i.e. the actors are willing but the lines call for it to pretend to be forced). I doubt they'd say all participants are legal age and willing if in the video, they're not.

I don't believe in God, but if He existed, God must be mad at the millions of people who do look at porn. God never told me," Don't look at porn because it's wrong." Therefore, I must assume that porn is not wrong in His eyes. I think porn is good. It makes me feel better about myself, while also sexually arousing me.

Yes. It's immoral. Bad? Maybe...because people don't know how to get out and get some on their own (without prostituion). Not a concern because we are the technology age and we're showing a LOT of skin these days.

I really dont see whats wrong with porn, those women and guys have a choice to appear naked on film, also its only nature that we like naked people, its in our brains and our subconscious, its what makes us humans

STORY THAT POSSIBLY HAVE A BIG IMPACT THIS TREAD.

In the light of September 11 terrorist attack, Billy Graham's daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her "How could God let something like this happen?"

Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response. She said "I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for years we've been telling God to get out of our schools, to get out of our government and to get out of our lives.

And being the gentleman He is, I believe He has calmly backed out. How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we demand He leave us alone?"

In light of recent events...terrorists attack, school shootings, etc. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she was murdered, her body found recently) complained she didn't want prayer in our schools, and we said OK.

Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school .... the Bible says thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself. And we said OK.

Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehave because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr. Spock's son committed suicide). We said an expert should know what he's talking about. And we said OK.

Then someone said teachers and principals better not discipline our children when they misbehave. The school administrators said no faculty member in this school better touch a student when they misbehave because we don't want any bad publicity, and we surely don't want to be sued (there's a big difference between disciplining, touching, beating, smacking, humiliating, kicking, etc.).. And we said OK.

Then someone said, let's let our daughters have abortions if they want, and they won't even have to tell their parents.. And we said OK.

Then some wise school board member said, since boys will be boys and they're going to do it anyway, let's give our sons all the condoms they want so they can have all the fun they desire, and we won't have to tell their parents they got them at school. And we said OK.

Then some of our top elected officials said it doesn't matter what we do in private as long as we do our jobs. Agreeing with them, we said it doesn't matter to me what anyone, including the President, does in private as long as I have a job and the economy is good.

Then someone said let's print magazines with pictures of nude women and call it wholesome, down-to-earth appreciation for the beauty of the female body. And we said OK.

And then someone else took that appreciation a step further and published pictures of nude children and then further again by making them available on the Internet. And we said OK, they're entitled to free speech.

Then the entertainment industry said, let's make TV shows and movies that promote profanity, violence, and illicit sex. Let's record music that encourages rape, drugs, murder, suicide, and satanic themes. And we said it's just entertainment, it has no adverse effect, nobody takes it seriously anyway, so go right ahead.

Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves.

Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out. I think it has a great deal to do with "WE REAP WHAT WE SOW."

OK, aside from that article having plenty of flaws that it's not even funny, what is the point of it? To show that porn somehow screws up kids, so don't watch it? Here, problem solved: Don't let the kids watch it, let the adults watch it, which is the audience it's meant for. There are many parental controls to prevent kids from accessing such stuff. If there's some other point from this article that I'm missing, please tell me what it is.

I think it has a great deal to do with "WE REAP WHAT WE SOW."There is also one factor that has developed alongside this stuff, the media. And this is how we here about it. It may have been that this stuff was happening so many years ago, and in fact it is in our nature to kill each other as it is an animal instinct of survival and domincance. The only difference is, EVERYONE gets to hear about the biggest cases because THEY CAN.....in the form of media of some description.
There is no proof of having more or less of this stuff now than ever, the only difference is the fact that everyone can hear about it all now.

oim gonna state my opinion on this, so everyone just hear me out.
I'm a roman catholic, and while I think porn and masturbation arent the best things to be seeing/doing, I just cant imagine a cruel God that would damn you to an eternity in hell just for disobeying him. The way I see God is a person who's always there for you, always here for you with open arms, not someone who walks around saying 'your not perfect. you messed up. heres a one way ticket to hell. tell satan i said hi.' no. not at all. I see God as someone who understands that we're not perfect and we all make mistakes and lapses in jdgement, and will accept us just the way we are

the end.
