Just randomly my legs and arms will fall asleep for no particular reason. A few hours ago from my belly button down was so asleep i couldn't even feel tingling. This is really annoying, not to mention handicapping. Am i lacking some vitamin or something?

From what I know, this is quite serious. (or can be)
It means not enough blood flow is reaching those areas- it could be a serious clot in your blood vessel, etc.
And I would expect it's especially bad if it happens often, to such large areas of your body.
So I suggest telling your mom ASAP, and seeing a doctor.

This could be numerous things but to narrow it down, there could be a cardiovascular problem or a neurological problem involving the nerves in those areas. From the given information, there's no way I can even give a remote guess as to the pathology of this. But, a quick question: When those areas feel tingly, can you move them or do they lose a lot of strength? Also, how long has this been going on for and how long do these feelings of falling asleep last for approximately? Also, what is your typical diet on an average day consist of? Any family history of neurological, cardiovascular or muscular diseases?

"The Law of Parsimony" = Always going with the easiest explanation for any occurence.

If your limbs are 'falling asleep' you're probably applying weight or pressure on them, temporarily cutting off blood flow and/or pinching the nerves, which causes the tingling and loss of control.

Fix? Be more mindful how you're holding yourself, of what you're putting pressure on, and make the attempt to not do it anymore.

Sam am I correct to say it's not normal to have half your body (belly button down) fall asleep? Randomly?

Sam am I correct to say it's not normal to have half your body (belly button down) fall asleep? Randomly?.

Depends on how you determined how the phenomena in question is 1) 'Not normal', and 2) 'Random'.

Something might seem 'not normal' not so much b/c it's painful or not typical, but b/c you might not have the info to determine and recognize the cause. So, eventhough pain/numbness from the waist down isn't 'typical', if you sit funny and manage to cut the blood flow to your legs, it's a very 'normal' (i.e. typical) reaction to that posture. Likewise, 'Randomly' suggests that there's no known reason for something, which might be the case, but then again, might just be another word for 'I don't know the reasons why this is happening'. There's a diff btw'n not having the info to accurately determine something and therefore determining that it's 'abnormal' or 'random'.

I know, I know, I'm getting hung up on semantics, but words are important, esp. online, where that's really all we have to communicate with eachother.

Ah yes. The way I interpreted it, it sounded like she was standing there, not in an awkward position, half her body was numb, and moving around didn't help.

Hopefully it's what Sam is describing. Good luck, and remember- we can't tell you for sure. Go to a doctor if you want certainty.
