Best Free Anti Virus

I use avast right now. It is really easy to use and free. Never had a problem with viruses since I've had it.

AVG is ok, i've had problems with it before but it's good for keeping your pc safe and is the only one i've used in years.

Yeah, I used to use Symantec Norton, and even though it was the paid version, it still sucked. It slowed the system down to a crawl when booting, logging on, installing, or decompressing archive files (zip, rar, cab, etc.). To make things worse, it doesn't uninstall all of the way, so it's hard to get rid of it.

Now, I use AVG Free for my antivirus and Comodo Firewall Pro for my firewall. Both are free and are excellent protection. They're pretty fast with starting up, too.

in Short Norton Antivirus SUCKS. worst sort of purchase we ever made.

Avast is good use avast
AVG is also good but seeing as you don't like it. Use Avast.

Adding the free version of ThreatFire (http://www.threatfire.com/about/) along side of it isn't a bad idea, either.

I use nothing but windows firewall.

I have Avira on this computer and it's decent. Besides as long as you wonder off to some unknown porn site, and download music off of limewire, u should be fine.

Unless you need crazy features and something impenetrable then any router acts as a basic firewall in that it closes ports. I'm personally against software firewalls simply because they use resources and only protect the particular system they're installed on.

If you want a firewall with an insane amount of customization and is incredibly difficult to break through then I suggest dedicating a PC to Smoothwall. The Smoothwall PC would take the place of your current router.

Some of Smoothwalls features that would be useful to the average VT'er are QoS Traffic Shaping, time controlled internet access, content filtering, ad blocking, port forwarding (of course), email virus filtering, dynamic DNS updater, IM logger, and so many more features I can't list them all here. If anyone decides to setup one of these babys PM me and I'll be more than happy to help out and walk you through it

A lot of people hate it but I like being directly involved in the blocking and stuff

I've got AVG free on this as well, picks up most viruses pretty quickly
