This is just an idea that i thought of seconds ago, why not have a news page or even a tiny section on VT of news? It doesn't have to contain every little bit of news because that would take a while to post, but just the main headlines? then members could disscus their views.

Just a thought

The VT Daily Chronicle (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=86)
Already done ;)
Any member can post and discuss news.

Do you mean VT news? As in things that are happening on VT?
Such as updates etc.

This happens in the VT Head Quarters generally. Normally Ant posts updates to the site etc and sometimes asks for opinions etc. Or if he has any ideas along with other members; then they post it here in Suggestions.
Is that what you mean?

I think he's trying to say of getting a headline that has updated news from around the world. Not a bad idea actually.

Like news sites have???
I doubt Ant would like to do that. It depends if it's needed, and where he could get one from etc...

I like the idea...but I don't think it could work?

It could come from a trusted news source like MSNBC or CNN. I like the idea but I'm not sure it's really needed.

Same. Or the BBC?? But would the system take it? And I don't think it's really needed...

I don't think it could. Depends on how it would work I believe.

Personally I think it's fine how it is.

However I think it would be pretty easy to set up a RSS feed displayer, and find a feed that shows world news. But it's not really necessary. Its not what the site is about, and it would just make things more cluttered/complicated.

Easy to do with an RSS feed.

It would be pretty easy to set up an rss feed from news sources but automated posting of news articles doesn't work out too well. Either it will post duplicates or it will post pointless ones that only push down the threads people really want to read.

Works good on there.

Andy, is that forum and what we have at the VTDC really comparable? Its easy to set up rss feeds, close the forum to replies, and have threads posted every so often, but its different when its an open forum like how the chronicle is.

Yeah, I think that an RSS feed would work just as good.

I don't like the idea.
Personally if I want to watch/read the news, I would.
I don't need VT for that.

I wasn't comparing at all. I was simply pointing out that it's easily done.

Thanks dude, my initial thought would be just main headlines at the top of the forum home page then maybe read more in the cronicle section.
