How far would you go to dupe a retailer into accepting fake merchandise? We certainly hope not as far as the devious woodworker who managed to pass off a few slabs of wood as legitimate Playstation 2 (http://videogames.yahoo.com/ps2/) consoles.
Crazy, but apparently true. Gaming blog Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/05/return-and-burn-fake-ps2-systems-retailers-took-for-real/) received pics of the hollowed-out consoles from an anonymous worker at a Sony distribution center. The systems were first returned to retailers for store credit or cash, then forwarded along to Sony, who, obviously, was running low on kindling.

At first glance the PS2s look pretty real, with the proper labels and buttons in all the right spots. The clever carpenter even stuffed them with dumbbells and towels to give them ample weight. As for how the retail associates managed to miss the fact that they were made of wood, however, is beyond us.
Sony has yet to comment on the matter, though we suspect they're 'barking' mad.
