My friend recently got herpes last week from wrestling his opponent. And today I threw out his trash at lunch today (my friend and I at our table throw away each others trash everyday) it was my turn. Would it be possible I could get herpes from tht. Next period I put loads of hand sanitizer on my hands and arms just in case. I'm not scared because someone else tray was on the bottom of his buy just making sure. And last week he had it my friend turn to do it he threw his out and he didn't get herpes. Bush asking for oppnions. Nothing life threatening

Genital or oral herpes?

If Genital:
Honestly I doubt he got it from wrestling. He was wearing clothes, correct? Wrestling isn't slang for sex now, right?
Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV, Genital Herpes)
Description: Genital herpes is a common infection caused by herpes simplex virus which can infect both the mouth and the genitals.
Symptoms: Most infected persons never recognize the symptoms of genital herpes; some will have symptoms shortly after infection and never again. In women, the blisters and sores may appear on the vulva, inside the vagina, on the cervix, or in the anal region. These sores may itch, burn, or cause pain. Flu-like symptoms are sometimes felt. In men, the blisters and sores caused by the genital herpes virus may appear on the penis, scrotum, or anus.
Cause: Herpes is caused by a virus. Herpes simplex type I virus causes more oral infections. Herpes simplex type II causes most genital herpes. Both types can give you sores in either place.
Transmission: Genital Herpes is almost always contracted through intercourse or other intimate physical contact.
Note: It is possible to contract herpes from an infectious person even when no sore is present.
Treatment: Medications such as Zovirax in ointment or capsule form can reduce the troublesome aspects of herpes or help prevent recurrent episodes of herpes—but cannot cure it.
Complications: Most people who develop herpes in the genital area will continue to have outbreaks for life. The first outbreak is the most severe. The outbreaks that occur after the first one usually heal faster and are less painful. There is very little medical danger unless a person has an impaired immune system. There is also danger if it infects a person’s eyes or brain or infects a newborn baby.

Herpes is an STD for a reason. Sexually Transmitted Disease. You don't get it from touching something that touched someone with herpes.

If Oral:
Even herpes of the mouth is rarely transferred by anything other than direct contact between mouth and mouth.

Oral herpes is also knows as cold sores. It's not too big of a deal, although some people can get an outbreak which can involve several cold sores at a time. You won't get that from touching someone's trash. You'd have to kiss them, borrow their chapstick, or share food or drinks. Even so, a large amount of people have/will get oral herpes. Pretty much anyone who's had a cold sore has it. You get the initial sores, it becomes dormant in your system, and then stress (physical, mental or emotional) can cause some to pop up for a little while. So don't worry about that.

Thomas pretty much covered the genital herpes deal, so I won't say anything about that. I will, however reiterate what he said: you can't get oral herpes in a wrestling match (unless it's of a sexual nature and there is contact to the infected partner's genitals). While it can be transmitted at any time, I believe the chances are less when the person is not suffering from an outbreak. The chances of your friend's wrestling partner having herpes, having an outbreak, and somehow transmitting it through his and your friend's clothes..... ridiculously low. How did your friend even come to the conclusion that he had this, anyways? Just out of curiosity.

Herpes from wrestling? Were they kissing? They don't usually do that. Are you sure it was herpes?

Anyway, herpes is an STI, you can get it only by exchanging bodily fluids with an infected person. Touching them (or touching something that they've touched or even rubbed) canNOT result in infection, b/c the virus itself is extremely fragile and CANNOT live outside the body, it needs body fluid to stay alive, once it contacts the air it quickly dies.

Relax, you're OK.

First of all if you knew any thing about the sport of wrestling, you would know that because of the nature of the sport, it is possible to get herpes from wrestling. There is a lot of close body contact during a wrestling match ion which both wrestlers exert a lot of energy thus creating the loss of body fluids through sweating. You do not have to kiss to get herpes all you have to do is have the person who has herpes rubs the infected part of the body against your skin.

Wrestlers are susceptible to getting ring worm and staff infection as well. this is due to of the nature of the sport with the exchange of body fluids due to heavy sweating and the closeness of the two bodies being together.

It is very possible to get herpes from just body contact with the infected area. Usually it occurs with two people kissing or having oral sex.

I hope your friend is OK and you should take precautions to protect your self from contracting the herpes virus.

It the gift that keeps on giving.

Unless the wrestlers touched lips, or touched genitals, its very unlikely.
I have wrestled, grappled, sparred, etc. I know what it's like.
And one doesn't go about putting their infected lips (which is unlikely- there would have to be an outbreak, in which case someone would see and not let the wrestler compete) on others lips, nor do they rip off their wrestling suit and rub genitals.

Even if by chance he did get infected by wrestling, it's doubtful you will get herpes from touching his trash. Like Sam said, the virus can't live outside the body very long. It needs a host cell to live in, or it dies.

He's ok but my friend said it looked like it was spreading on him and it did look like it. If I hve more concerns I will post and seek help right away. How do you get Herpes?

Herpes is spread by direct skin to skin contact. Unlike a flu virus that you can get through the air, herpes spreads by direct contact, that is, directly from the site of infection to the site of contact. For example, if you have a cold sore and kiss someone, you can transfer the virus to their mouth. Similarly, if you have active genital herpes and have vaginal or anal intercourse, you can give your partner genital herpes. Finally, if you have a cold sore and put your mouth on your partners genitals (oral sex), you can give your partner genital herpes.

When Is Herpes Most Likely To Be Spread?

Herpes is most easily spread when a sore is present, but, it is also often spread at other times too. Some people notice itching, tingling or other sensations before they see anything on their skin. These are called "Prodromal Symptoms" and they warn that virus may be present on the skin. Herpes is most likely to be spread from the time these first symptoms are noticed until the area is completely healed and the skin looks normal again. Sexual contact (oral, vaginal, or anal) is very risky during this time.

Can Herpes Be Transmitted Without Symptoms?

Yes! Sometimes those who know they are infected spread the virus between outbreaks, when no signs or symptoms are present. This is called "Asymptomatic Transmission."
Research also shows that herpes simplex infections are often spread by people who don't know they are infected. These people may have symptoms so mild they don't notice them at all or else don't recognize them as herpes.

Here is some information that I found on the net. Here is the link.
