You can watch porn at 18, but have sex at 16 in England. Why the hell?

England, go figure. You guys also put the steering wheel on the right and drive on the left, too.

I think the ages for these things is arbitrary, decided based more on prevailing standards, rather than any consistent logic. So, since 50% of all 16y/o are virgins (or non virgins, depending on how you look at it), I suppose it makes sense to not make half the population guilty of a crime.

Porn is for entertainment, and to appreciate the entertainment value of it, to fully appreciate that it is NOT necessarily 'accurate' in it's portrayal of relationships and sexual acts, I think the age is determined by a general, prevailing sense that by the time you're 18, you've figured that out, that more than 50% of the population has had first hand experience with sex.

Because the laws were created at different times in different contexts

Yeah it's the same in Australia.

by the way IAMSAM, there is more countries that drive on the left, than the right.

That is outrageously wrong. About 2/3 of the world is right hand drive, the other 1/3 left hand drive.

It kinda doesnt make any sense. U can do the deed at 16 but not watch it till 18. People have different ideas about things, maybe seeing porn at an early age England may think will provoke ideas of more sex and more things. Plus If u dont know what ur doing the first time AT ALL. many might wait until 18 anyway to know what they are doing.
Im not sure but it may be a clever plot, at least the way i see it.

^that can't be right, or else there wouldn't be anyone convicted of raping a child....

Probably one of the stupider laws.
Good point though.. it's like "I can make my own porn, but i can't download it?"... not logical.

I say do whatever you want with your life. it's not like it's hurting anyone

Theres a huge difference between R rated movies and porn
Porn is the actual sexual relationship between two people- R rated may have naked bodies, or even 'fake sex' but nothing is real, nor does it get explicit (usually under covers, in bed. Nothing bad).

And I read the age of consent in Virginia is 18?

This explains that there are about 70K unwanted preganancies in UK...girls who are pregnant at the age of 15. So, it is legal to have sex in UK even if kids are not ready to even live on their own. This is a great delima for the parents. Don't ge me wrong, but pornography is not the answer either. Pornography came from two greek word. 1) Pornonoy - the devil 2) graphia - pictures. Literal meaning: the devils pictures. Lest you want to be slave by a cruel master, the devil will make your life miserable. Stay away from pornography. Stay away from having sex. Read a good book instead and be active in sports.

I don't think people in the UK care about the devil to be honest.
More people watch a comedy panel show called 'Mock the Week' than go to church.

But yeah, law and rules are stupid.
