I have a smoking problem.
I can't afford nicotine gum or patches or any other crap.
What can I do to ignore my addiction?

I don't know how hard it is, because I've never smoked, but do you think you have the willpower to just stop?
If you think about a cigarette, ignore it. Do something else.
Put away all your cigarettes, and avoid places like gas station stores where it's easy to buy cigs.
Have someone help you, reminding you why you're doing this.

Or get professional help.
There are probably help centers to help you stop smoking.

I really do want to quit. But it is hard to ignore it. And my parents wouldn't talk to me about it.

Do you have any teachers or friends that can help?

Not really. I started tobacco awareness classes but they don't help. At all. The teacher just rambles on about the obvious.

Does your school have a counselor? They could/should help.

Well. I'm not comfortable with counselors. Something about them wierds me out. Like they are trying to get something out of me.

Hm, so if there's no one to help you, you have to try really hard to quit, by yourself.

Okay. Maybe I'll try asking my dad. Thanks for your help.

A little advice I got from one of my friends who quit: Apparently having something in your mouth whenever you get cravings really helps. Even if it isn't the special nicotine gum, just normal gum, apparently it helps. And do something with your hands to keep you occupied.

Apart from that, just keep at it! You can do it if you try hard enough. :)

Well what Shattered and Mzor have said is all true. I just recently quit smoking this fall but I didn't not smoke that long.

Chew a lot of gum and avoid the places you the when you smoked. It is best to avoid being around people who smoke. the physical craving goes away in a bout 3 days but the mental one is with you for a while because it is a learned habit.

Keep active exercise just do something to take your mind off of it. It was easy for me to quit because I was ashamed I was smoking and I hate the smell of smoke on my clothes.

I hope what i have said to you helps if not send me a PM and maybe we can talk more.

Cold turkey.

Chew sugarless gum, eat a mint, go for a walk.

Good for you for quitting. Before the patch, etc., people just quit. They endured the cravings and jonesing, it passes, and their bodies thank them forever.

I'm 16, I've smoked for a year and I want to quit....well I HAVE to quit because I can't afford them anymore and if I keep asking my parents for five quid a week, it'll be even more suspicious. But when I get the money, I just go buy some more. During the times, I couldn't smoke, the cravings were there but I couldn't do anything because there just weren't any cigarettes to smoke :/ So I would just ignore it and think about something else, although I would always be fidgeting with something XD

I'm pretty sure the quit smoking stuff is cheaper that ciggies themselves.

When you want one go out for a run or something, or something that helps you.... Good luck ;)

5 month bump, and considering the OP has his answers, and it doesn't seem like this thread needs to stay open, :locked:
