Is there any way that I can get a job at 14 that isn't something stupid like mowing grass, shoveling snow, or babysitting? I'd like to know when I'm eligible to get a worker's permit and join a radio station and be a DJ or something (Patchy got me into it and now I'd like to get a career like this).

Laws are different for every state/country. I could really only help with Canada laws, but there is most likely something like a teen resource center somewhere in your town where you'd be able to t=figure it out. Research online is good too, but probably not as good as someone who knows what you're talking about.

That's what I would suggest.

I'd check out your labor laws in your state, because they are different by state. In my state, you could do quite a lot of jobs when you were 14, but there were a lot of restrictions. If you tell me your state, I could help you.

Work at Kroger. They hire 15 year-olds.

As I said to you on MSN at your age/even at my age its impossible to get a job on a proper radio station, I get a basic fee for what I do, (works out at about £20 an hour, probs about $30-35.) for my actual shows which is 2 hours worth, it seems a lot of cash for that but for the amount of effort you have to put in to organise it all, it might as well that amount a day.

@Jared: I live in Ohio. I've done some research and nothing useful as come up as of yet. I'd like some help.

@Bobby: You know, that's not a bad idea. I've been thinking about a good starting job for a while now, and I think that might be a good point to start. How much would my wage be? Would be below minimum wage? I'm sure it will be.

Kroger is one of the worst employers in the world - they really do suck. I know a ton of people that work/worked for them and they all hate it. But it's a job, and they're always hiring.

That page gives what you are looking for, I think. I'm not sure, if not, I shall continue looking.

to be honest, why do you need a job at 14, your living at home, youve got exams and stuff coming up I would focus on that instead of worrying about a job

Thanks very much Jared, but I need just one more thing. What about teens that are homeschooled and them getting workers permits? I'm homeschooled so I'd like to see a document concerning this.

Ooh...that's a tough one...might be hard to find information on that. Do you have a supervisor, or are your parents in charge of all your schooling. Have a talk with your parents and if you have one, a supervisor. I'd assume they'd still be similar.

If you're good academically, consider becoming a private tutor. I was a French tutor in college and I liked the warm fuzzy feeling inside for helping someone, but it would've been even better with a few bills attached to the job. >_>

Aside from that, where I live at 14, it's just jobs like picking strawberries or the like. Where you live might be different, ask around.
