For some reason, it will randomly pause in the middle of playing something.

I've checkd for the obvious reasons it'ed pause, like it being un-locked and i bumped the button, or my headphones comming out, but neither is true

Are there any reasons why it would pause without having the button pushed or having the headphones pulled out?

[and i'm ceartin it's locked]

I would attempt to restore it in iTunes. Then if that doesn't work some music may be corrupted. Or the click wheel's play/pause button may be dislocated. If u have the classic with the harddrive you may be jostling it around to much.go http:///forums.ilounge.com/archive/index.php/t-1882.html

Mine used to do that, was crappy headphones. I cleaned it out and still no better, then I tried some other headphones (pink ones :D) and it was fine!

like i said, it's locked, so it can't be the wheel

i do have an 80GB clasic

armegeddon: i checked out your link, that's not the problem i'm having. I did have to "restart' it once, but i think i hit a bad combination of keys. It will re-start playing from where it paused when i unlock it and hit play

andy: er,, not headphones. Read "pause", not "audio stoped"

add: this is a new problem. i've had this thing for about a year, and this minor thing started thursday. there's no real pattern to when it happens. it's been sitting on a table, or in a pocket, or in my bag, or whatever. it's random

I fixed the URL

Your software may be corrupted, go to iTunes, go to your iPod, click restore...
If that isn't the problem your hard drive may have been shaken hard enough to scar it.
Try contacting apple customer support via phone or the apple website. They should have the answers. If not you may have to send it In saying it's a firmware glitch

It pauses if you unplug headphones.

Lol, nvm but it is a common problem that apple might not be able to fix until the next update.

In other words your hard drive might be f****d up, you may have corrupted software/firmware/ or your music is corrupted...

I found this on the apple support site. Just follow what it says and that should do it. If it keeps doing it then just do the same thing over and over. It works for me on my nano.

Thanks Matt.

Resetting it didn't work to well... it still did it >P

I totally restored it.. hope this fixed it, cause i had to re-load EVERYthing, and that was a pain in the butt :P

oh, my computer won't let my update iTunes, or i'd've tried that first

I'm not sure if this should just be an "edit" or a new post,
but it's still giving me shit.

It can't be the file, because the files work fine on the computer (including in iTunes), and it's sporadic. One thing might be messed up for one playing, but i go back to it later, and it works fine.

Hm, let's see if i can override the fact that it doesn't like me downloading anything new...

First things First, Are you Running Vista or another operating system?
You are using an Ipod Classic? what size?
What version of Itunes are you using?
Is the Lock switch on the Ipod working correctly?
is the click wheel and button working fine?

I used to have the same problem with my 2G 1st Gen Nano.
It could be due to a corrupt file or some virus that could have transfered to the iPod.
I dumped my entire collection out and that fixed it right up...
Though it is a pain in the arse to virus scan all of your items then put them back on.

using vista have you ever tried to upgrade the firmware? If so, did it crash or error halfway through/starting/as soon as it finished?

Has Itunes been slow or crashing?

Try updating your Ipod on another computer(preferably XP as most of the "little" bugs have been worked out of XP and Itunes, Vista is still fairly new)

i think it's fixed

it was a bitch, but i totally reset everything (including dumping library)
None of my files were corrupted.. but re-doing everything and setting the iPod to factory settings seems to have fixed it

iTunes itself is fine, and nighthawk i can't exactly update it to a new computer.... i only have the one. and this comp is from '08, so it's pretty new
