a good salary to support a family with 1 or 2 kids, and still have a little of your own money to spend?
The reason I'm asking is because I have a job offer as soon as I graduate high school and they are starting me at $60,000 a year. (They offer that to anyone with an associate's degree, and I'll be graduating with an associate's degree)
I want to know if it's worth just sticking with the associates degree, or going on to a university to earn a bachelor's, master's, etc and finding a possibly better paying job? I'm not saying I'm looking for the easiest way out, I'm just looking at my options.

Go for the education.
It's a tough world out there, it's very competitive. And although $60k sounds like a lot now, unless you've got some inventive genius like Bill Gates, it's less likely that you'll make more any time soon, esp.. against those with lots of credentials and degrees and stuff.

Very true, but the original point of this thread was to find out about how much is needed to support an average sized family, on average. lol.

Always look at the sky as neverending which means, Always shoot for the top.
60k can support a family of 1-2 kids alright but u never know in this world. I would say that yea 60k is good. For me personally i would try to get more education to increase my chances of getting better oppurtunities. Yet a little spending money depends on what you mean, like a little extra here and there, or little extra of 3,000 a month.
It really depends on what you mean. But for me i shoot very very high. My motto is "When you are in a group with 10 other people, make sure your the cutest" lol. as in be the best as you can be

Atm moment I am set up to make about 20k a year, which is not nearly enough. It truly takes 400,000k to support a child now do the math you have two kids and you only make so much.

Education, education, education. Get as much as you can as early as possible. One day not having it will come back and bite you. I was listening to the radio today and man was talking about how he lost his job he was in for 20 years, and because he has no degree or anything he is fucked.
If you have the opportunity to learn, take it.

Before u get a family, i would get a plan. Make enough money annually to support yourself without a doubt, then you take in factors as does ur significant other have a job or do u have one at all. After which u have to consider what age the children will be and when u are raising them, babies cost alot more. Diapers, milk, juice, toys, leisures. Try to consider that for example :
(This part has no basis on reality), if u take 100,000 dollars to support yourself and have money left over, a child will be 150,000 to 200,000. You cant selfish as a parent you know and kids have school, new clothes every year and since u wont be growing anymore u dont really need new clothes, food, presents for their birthday and chirstmas, its alot. Get as much money and education for ur self so u can be alright even if disaster strikes. If you cant take care of ur self u cant take care of another.

Also take into consideration you need to put away say 10-15% of your income for a rainy day and then theirs your kids college to think about.
