hasnt really taken over seeing how much modding is required to do that :/

Ah yes, though isn't it funny how Windows has already spread through almost every Linux OS :) Almost everyone has to use Windows sometime or another :P Besides, isn't this just a screen saver

Ah well... You tried, and that's what counts!

actualy, linux is far better than windoze

one reason is that the other day i found an emulator that lets you run widoze apps under linux, eliminating windoze altogether

also, dont you hate it when you install that cool new program, and then you must restart or it wont work properly? linux rarely must be restarted, making it far better for running servers

anyway, if for some strange and unexpected reason you need to run windoze you can still use linux and run windoze under it using vmware

linux > windoze :P

WAITWAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT . . you found an EMULATOR for LINUX that is letting you use WINDOWS programs

AH H HAAHAH h ha hah AHAHAHHA

Ok and which is better again?

dont be stupid

linux is better

the emulator is there for if microsoft is being selfish fools you can still run things like a Halo PC dedicated server

You gave two, supposedly, didn't you?

You say that linux is invading Windows, even though you found an emulator that's made so windows can run on linux??? lol And do you actually know why you need to restart Windows after some installations? It's because they replace or modify system files and so it asks you to restart for system stability. Obviously, linux doesn't have driver updates that much. And I'm pretty sure that Windows is still (and will always) dominate over linsux. After all, look at the solid reasons: very user-friendly interface, compatible with more than 90% of all the applications being made, amazing flexibility for services, programs, drivers, and devices, and more secure than linux - seen as how it's closed source, rather than open. Heh, it even has it's own emu for linux-lovers that don't want to admit they need Windows

And also, Windows runs native code (C++), so it's truely awesome.
Thanks for bringing this urgent topic up, kid! :D

Reliability and ease of use

ease of use, yeah

reliability, no, ive had many BSOD's on this windows install and i take many more precautions than the average user. with linux you have to open up a terminal sometimes and run some commands but its the same with windows.

kiros, you dont seem to know much about linux as linux runs c++ also, its just compiled differently

You say that linux is invading Windows, even though you found an emulator that's made so windows can run on linux???

i never said that, i said WINE lets you run windows APPS on linux

i seriously doubt linux is less secure than windows for the pure fact that i can run a virus scan after going who knows where on the internet and it will find less than windows if any at all

if you want your computer to run slow from viruses, get windows

if you want your identity stolen from spyware, get windows

another thing, some distros of linux can run perfectly on a flash drive
can windows? no, and it never will

Well you must have Windows 3.1 then  Or your precautions are nothing to be boasting. I have had only one BSOD on my Windows, and that was kind of my own fault... (the kernel shouldn't be modified! :P)

Oh and yes, I know that linux can run dev-C++ but that is definately not the same as C++, in fact, the hierancy issues with dev-C++ are laughable, as C++ doesn't have issues (or course, you won't run into this problem if you don't use classes and objects).

I saw that you said Windows Applications, but I've used WINE (or one of it's clones) before on Fedora Core... Didn't just look like the applications to me  In fact, with a little installations, the Windows emulator seemed exactly like Windows. Hmmm... Now isn't that funny? :)

And yes, linux is indeed less secure than Windows. It's open source and bugs can be discovered. It's not like you have to report a bug if you find it. Though most people think linux is more secure, this is only because black-hats don't feel the need to create viruses and trojans for two OS's when one is used much more than the other. Viruses can be made for linux, just as they can for Windows - Biology 101 :P

I know, some mods of linux can run from a flash drive, and Windows can't normally. But you would also have to have a computer capable of a USB boot. It turns out to be more of a hastle than a convenience, especially when you run out of space on the flash drive.

If you want your computer to run smoothly and securely from the anti-virus and firewall applications it runs, get Windows. Simple as that.

you didnt use anything like WINE thenbecause win runs from the terminal and only on what you tell it to

most distros of linux come with 4 virtual desktops, does windows? no

many distros of linux have full 64bit support, for 64 bit support with windows you need to buy the new OS for 100-200 bucks and even then you probably wont find drivers for everything

windows comes with like 10 games and most arent even fun, the distro i use came with ~30 games

you keep saying linux is less secure than windows because its open source, it being open source makes it FREE and as long as you have a decent firewall its as secure as windows, in fact windows exploits are readily available on the net, i jsut found a port 5000 exploit like last week

Yes, I used something like, if not, WINE on Fedora Core. There's more than 1 emulator to operate Windows under Linux, so just search around. And no, Windows does not come with 4 virtual desktops - instead, it comes with Explorer, which is much better. Plus, you can easily download a freeware application that expands to 9 virtual desktops. Oh, how horrible that you would actually have to buy (or download) a new OS for only $100 - less if you download it :P And you would find more drivers for Windows than you would for linux, guaranteed. Windows comes with 11 games by default, but ummm, you know what I really love about Windows? It can actually run games that don't come by default. Almost every PC game out there is made for Windows (and a good many are exclusively for Windows). Few games actually come in a linux form that's somewhat similar to the Windows version (i.e. a 3rd party recreation). Yes, of course linux is less secure, IT'S OPEN SOURCE - the only thing is no one cares about linux because most computers have Windows as the OS, not linux. So you actually found a UPNP exploit?! No way! The same that's been out for years AND has already been secured by updates? Heh, and even if you never update Windows, any good firewall will come with a "UPNP Port 5000 Block Rule" and basically any other exploited port rule.

In any case, this has gotten way off topic. The sheer irony is that the title is "haha linux is taking over" when your "evidence" was a linux screen saver on Windows, even though Windows has clearly invaded and dominated linux - it even has it's own emulator made for linux :) But yeah, need to stay on topic, otherwise I'll have to lock this.

Then use linux, don't use Windows. And stay on topic... even though it's already resolved...

The order from best OS to worst OS Windows>Linux>MS-DOS-First OS ever made>Apple

72% Use Windows
16% Use Macs
12% Use Linux

You know why 72% use Windows? BECAUSE IT'S BETTER.

And Macs suck!
Linux and Macs don't get viruses, you know why? Cause everyone is using the better OS, Windows. Hackers aren't going to waste their time infecting 16% or 12% of people. Usually hackers want to be known for what they've done. The only virus I can remember for the Mac is The Love Bug.
