World, rejoice!

Bush is heading out and Obama is moving into the white house ^_^

Who else can't wait to watch the coverage?

And has anybody else noticed how it's RIGHT after Martin Luther King Jr's birthday too? Symbolic, eh?

PS- If this turns into a debate, I'm moving it to Ramblings Of The Wise.

i think i will pass on watchjing the coverage since its going to be happening at 3.30am when i will be sleeping. and as for the coincidence, it is rather symbolic of the significance of the event.

Well I am not watching him get inaugurated unless there is a chance that he will be assassinated.

I am not as big Obama fan and he will need a miracle to get this country back on it s feet again. If he doesn't he will be the first president since the first Bush to not get elected again.

I conveniently happen to be sick again. Vomitted at school and the "flu" is going around so not only did they give me the option to go home, they made me go home. Bitches.

But ya, now I can watch the inaugruation

Today is one of those days where a lot changes and history is marked.

I'm proud to be an American today and I'm proud that we've finally broken another color barrier. Obama gave such a wonderful speach. I know that I wasn't really a huge supporter of Obama but, I must say, that I am proud that I was able to witness this day. A day in which I thought would never happen.

To be honest, and I hope this doesn't come off as racist or anything, because that's not what I'm trying to imply. I think making this such a huge deal isn't really supporting equality. I know it is a big deal that there is finally a black president, but treating him so high still doesn't sound like equality. Honestly, everyone thinks he's going to be like the best president ever. He's not going to be a bad president, but I think he's just going to go down in history as the first black president, which is wonderful. Maybe I'm pessimistic about the future of his presidency, but I just feel everyone is expecting WAY too much...more than any man would be able to accomplish. I wish him the best though. I also think all those racist fucking pigs should fuck off...what is the point of racism?

I disagree with that. Actually, Harding was the worst president ever. The Jackson administration was rather corrupt as well, but he was a war hero, so it didn't make much difference.

Bush is a good person and actually had the countries best interest at heart, sadly he was just a puppet for his shitty administration. There are many things he could have, and should have handled better, but I'd like to see how anyone else handles a massive attack on your country like that. An attack like that on your country would make any president look bad, as well as cause them to make bad decisions. Everyone seems to forget that he was hit with the terrorist attacks less than a year in office. If the attacks wouldn't have happened, everyone would be saying very different things about his presidency. He would have quite likely fallen into the list of rather inactive presidencies.

Woah, woah, woah. Hold on there a minute. Did NO ONE else here watch, or for that matter, hear his farewell address? Are you really that dumb? I'm sorry, but you gotta give the man credit.

He did what he thought was right and people just outright, and always will, complain about the past 8 years. He did what he thought was right. Granted, some of the things he did weren't the best of decisions, but I believe he did the right thing in doing what he wanted to.

I'm getting tired of Americans being so angry at Bush and his presidency. People of this country are loosing the real meaning of the country. It doesn't matter who the president is, we are America. We are the land of opportunity, not a land of bitchers and moaners.

Having to read comments on here and other websites saying that their country brings shame and disgrace to them offends me. I for one, unlike most others, am GLAD to live in a country where a man, woman, or child can become what they want and do what they want.

So be glad that you are in a free country. If you don't like how our top official handle things, then get the hell out of my country, which is the one I love dear.

Disagreeing with a governments decisions is completely fine. That's why this is a democracy. We aren't forced to like our politicians or forced to follow a certain way (to an extent).

To some people, Bush is the worst president ever. I too agree his years in office didn't accomplish much good, but I don't dislike him.

Exactly. It not like we have to like them or they'll do something. We have a right to free speech. I can't say that Bush was the worst. Nixon wasn't a walk in the park especially during Watergate.

There were many great presidents. Some served one term and some served two. There were also presidents who really weren't the best, but not the worst. Bush, contrary to popular opinion, is a very smart man. He was just never really great at giving speeches but private interviews with him and reporters really show his better side.

I'm sure Barbara dropped him on his head a few times by accident ;)

I agree with that. His farewell speech was very good, sincere, and I feel he did what he felt was best for our country. Every problem in this country is NOT his fault. Mostly, it's his administration...they weren't very good. The economy is bad because of oil companies raising prices. The availability of oil didn't go down, in fact it was rising. There wasn't a need to raise oil prices. The problems with the economy can not be blamed fully on Bush, it can be blamed on all of the American people and credit card companies. Maybe if people quit going into so damn much debt to buy "wants" there wouldn't be such a repression happening.

Everyone has to remember this is a democracy, Bush was voted in whether you like it or not.

Don't get pissed off because people didn't vote the way you voted; you knew this was a democracy when you agreed to participate, so you knew this was how things might work out. Basically, don't get pissed off over the fact that the way you feel about culture isn't some kind of universal consensus. Because if you do, you will end up feeling betrayed. And it will be your own fault. You will feel bad, and you will deserve it.

To me, in my opinion, people like that are really just undeserving to live in the country. Hey, that's just me. If they can't appreciate the freedoms they have then why are they here? If they don't like the way things are ran then why don't they just move to Canada or somewhere else?

I felt much more patriotic after 9/11. This to me is just the same as any other inauguration. An American is sworn in to lead the country...no different than any other inauguration. People need to quit dwelling on the fact that he is black because he is still the same as any other American.

My class convinced our teacher to let us stay in at lunch AND miss half an hour of class to watch the inauguration and speech on the internet. We pretty much told her that we would never forgive her if we missed it. My ENTIRE class stayed in to watch it.
I wore an Obama hat to school today, and my uncle from Nevada is mailing me a T-shirt. He's the first politician I've genuinely been excited about.

My point is, is that people are blaming Bush for everything that's happened. They act as if something like this hasn't happened. It's just something called "Blame the Leader". But, you have to have a level of respect for the man. You should have a respect for all the presidents, past and present.

People blame Bush for the war, economy and a bunch more. There are so many excuses that people can come up with and say "It's Bush's fault" when it's not true. So, I suppose that gives me the right to something against the law and say "It's Obama's fault" or "It's Biden's fault".

I don't know the exact way to get at it. I'm at a loss of words. I know this may seem rough, but there are so many things that people do that just get to me. Especially when you're insulting the people that help, in the best way they can, in leading the country to prosperity.

Oh okay, if people in general weren't so hypocritical, maybe they'd realise that skin color has nothing to do with anything and wouldn't be like "OMG BLACK PRESIDENT".

He's a man like any other. Who cares if your president is black, white or asian or whatever. Who cares if you're president's a woman. The man or woman better suited for the job should get it. Being in such astonishment as to his skin color just shows that you expected him to be the inferior candidate because he's Kenyan. gtfo give me a break.

I personally liked Bush and I doubt Obama would have done a better job. IME anyone expressing a huge dislike for Bush never knows exactly why he or she dislikes him. It's just jumping on the liberal bandwagon.

It's always funny watching lolbamites spew their bullcrap around. "omg first black president" "omg CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE NO MOAR WAR!"

"I have a dream, that one day my four little children will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." People have taken this way out of context. Of course, I think it's great that we have a different race as president because I know that my country has finally broken the ultimate color barrier IMHO.

But, it's not that big a deal to some people. A woman president WOULD be a big deal. I could see people rejoicing for that.

You have no idea how many times I would have to listen to my aunt sit there and lecture me about how bad McCain was and how God-like Obama was because he said "Change" and nothing more than that. That's why I supported McCain.

I was called a racist by white people because that's who I supported. I had no right to vote, but I got into conversations with people who were old enough and I told them why I supported McCain. Most of those people I talked to called me racist just because I didn't "believe in change and a black man being president".

No, such an upheavel means that most people viewed him as the underdog because he was black. In their minds, even the "inferior beings" have a shot in America, so they're all happy fun times.

Disgusting.

But, it's not that big a deal to some people. A woman president WOULD be a big deal. I could see people rejoicing for that.

Americans would act as if they were the first nation ever to elect a woman as president, as always. What about Ireland? Liberia?

I supported neither. One was a fossil with a brain-dead running mate and the other a socialist who's buzzword was "change".

I find hilarious the lack of choice in America.

I was called a racist by white people because that's who I supported. I had no right to vote, but I got into conversations with people who were old enough and I told them why I supported McCain. Because being black is so important.

Obama's program in the mind of the common folk :
1) CHANGE!
2) black
3) goto 1

I think it's bullshit having people call eachother racist JUST because they didn't support a black guy.

That's because it is.

I don't mind Black History Month, I don't mind Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and I don't mind BET or whatever. It's just that I'm called racist just because I didn't support a black guy.

White pride is something that I never really thought about being attached to my race. I never thought that anything was related to my race. I'm not saying that I'm not proud of my race or that I have nothing to really contribute.

I just don't want to be chanting "White pride" or (if by mistake) "White power". People just find shit like that offensive when they shouldn't. It's not like only ONE race can take pride in themselves and other races can't.
