Okay. So my dad's girlfriend wanted to install McAfee on my laptop since my Norton has been expired for some time. Well, after installing, my laptop has been consistently rebooting itself almost every 1-5 mintues. However, when I choose to start it up in Safe Mode, it stops rebooting itself, but I can't uninstall either of the programs that I think are conflicting, McAfee and Norton. I've tried restarting it normally and quickly uninstalling, but it always reboots itself before I can get the installation complete.

Oh, and everytime it starts to reboot, I get this screen:

Any help/suggestions?
I'm about to pull my hair out.

See when you reboot does that screen eventually disappear then boots windows or does that stay on.

thats called BSOD (Blue screen of death) and can mean that your software is encourtering serious problems or something has happened to the drivers that linked the hardware to the software.

It can mean other things but I think your installation has duffed up the operating system, Andy will give you a better idea!

Try system restore in safe mode.

Maybe you cant use the uninstall programs that come with the software, but you might be able to use the control panel, the Add/Remove programs tab. Try that :) If that doesn't work you may need to do a repartition/clean install.

Sorry if this doesn't help :(

Try system restore in safe mode.

I called my mum this morning and she suggested that, and it's working now.
Thanks though ^_^
It's up and running = ]

Couldn't she of booted up off of a cd, like Linux for instance, and deleted the file in the HD?

Yeah, or even from an External HD. That could have worked if needed.

For a while, when my iMac's hard drive failed, I was running leopard off an external hard drive.... Not the best option, but one indeed.

So you replaced a terrible antivirus with another terrible one?

That's good to hear :) Ta for the rep ;)

P.s. I advise you remove your anti-virus and install AVG Free (http://free.avg.com/download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition), it's hugely better than Norton and McAfee.

Just as a note, Norton and McAfee are two of the worst AV programs ever invented. :P

For future reference for anyone, here are removal tools for each:

McAfee Removal Tool (http://majorgeeks.com/McAfee_Consumer_Product_Removal_Tool_d5420.html)

Norton Removal Tool (ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe)

Those programs are created by both McAfee and Norton and will completely remove either from your computer, supposedly even if you can't remove it other ways.

If your happy with buying your Anti Virus. have a look at NOD32, I've used it and its really light on resources and hasn't given me any problems.

I couldn't agree more! Norton completely takes over your computer.. it's a nightmare!

Yes, NOD32 is pretty good, I used 2.7 for a couple of years. It's a good AV though :)

Yeah but Norton is worse than McAfee :]
AVG ftw

Why do people go out and buy an anti-virus program, I've always used AVG and I've never had a problem with a virus messing up my computer or anything like that. Buy McAfee for like 70$ and you can only install it on 3 computers? PSH!
