What if just for a day
I could remain
solitary in thought
and clear in conscious.
Without barriers
I would stretch
my hands into the sky
without wondering why.
No broken heart to burden me
I'd spread my wings
and not glance at those
who surround me.
I'd trust my intuition
and not sulk in doubt
I could forgive myself
for standing out.
It's not easy being alone
with no one to guide you
to labor mistrust
for being a black man.
I could remain
solitary in thought
and clear in conscious.
Without barriers
I would stretch
my hands into the sky
without wondering why.
No broken heart to burden me
I'd spread my wings
and not glance at those
who surround me.
I'd trust my intuition
and not sulk in doubt
I could forgive myself
for standing out.
It's not easy being alone
with no one to guide you
to labor mistrust
for being a black man.
