I see Abuse at school about peoples weight, height, knowledge, etc. I stop it (and people listen to me because I'm captain of the Basketball team and Football team.) [The pic was from 4 years ago. I'm muscular now.] anyway some people say I should stay out of it but others say I should stop it. What do you guys think?

Oh, people of conscience always stop anything that unfairly targets others, esp. based on perceived weakness or 'differentness'. I feel strongly about this.

The issue isn't if you should stand up to injustice, the issue is HOW. What's the most efffective way to do so. And the answers to that are: 1) In a way that doesn't put yourself in undue harm, 2) That stops the injustice, and 3) That doesn't get you into trouble.

That last one is really important, b/c regardless of how correct you are in your intent, if you do it in a way that violates rules, laws, or expectations, instead of the perp being in trouble, you get into it. That not only limits your effectiveness, but perhaps more importantly, often doesn't stop the injustice, b/c everyone is distracted by your actions.

I applaud your sense of righteousness, just make sure you don't do anything that limits your effectiveness. Make sure you do it in a way that maximizes exposure to the perps behavior, not your reaction. That means, using your head probably instead of your fists, and work the system to accomplish your ends.

Keep on standing up for people, 100%. You have a position of relative authority within the student body, and what you've been doing is an admirable way to take advantage of it. Though you may or may not realize it, I'm sure you've made a difference for a number of students by stopping the taunting, and I'm sure they're extremely grateful.

Keep up the good work!

the only thing i would be concerned about was the issue of you becoming a bully when trying to stop the bullies. There's a fine line between helping others and taking things "too far."

most bullies have reasons outside of the meaness that compel them to bully. For some it's a cry of attention because they're neglected at home, or worse. For others it's a self-esteem problem. Most of these people are good people, and you have to remember that. many reflect their home lives. At times they don't even realize they're bullying. Especially if a parent is a bully and they see it as perfectly normal.

of course this doesnt mean they're not to blame. Many people who are abused themselves do not become bullies. however, you should keep in mind that these bullies are people when you stop them. or else you become one of them.

keep up your good work otherwise

How do you feel about it? Would you want your school to go down the drain because you stopped helping? Everyone should lend a hand. I hate any form of abuse. Listen to your heart...after all, it's your school; your life.

I think standing up for others is the most wonderful, noble thing to do

And no matter what people say you shouldn't stop. Of course act in the borders of normality... But its rare that someone stands up for others especially in the teenage years.

So don't loose what you got, few people have the personality to care and even fewer have the guts to do something about it

I say stand up for them. It makes the most sense. Not only that, they learn to respect you and trust you. When I was being mocked at school and somone deffended me, it was the greatest feeling in the world. Keep it up, if i were you :)
