Most likely its about PMs, validations, posts, etc.
Its all automated. Theres no one sitting at a computer typing up messages to everyone on VT all day :P

We didn't send them? I am assuming you received an e-mail from Virtual Teen forums. That means you have a notification such a PM, friend incoming request, etc. Now, just read what they say. Did they all correspond to something different on the forum?

Yeah, subscirbing to threads is a default now.
So since your new you automatically are subscribed to all the threads you make and post in. To chanage it just go to the User CP and click on Edit Options

Well if you do a lot of posting on VT you are going to get a lot of exposure so people will email you and PM you.

Yeah, I have to wonder if you read the emails... If you read them, then it might be explained within the emails (subscriptions, PMs, etc.).

Unless they're all duplicates or completely unrelated to you, everything should be fine. You can adjust your notification settings (including subscriptions) within your UserCP.
