i sweat quite a bit when it is either humid or hot. now most people would but i seem to more then others. i know being out of condition and not exactly being a picture of fitness helps, but still it seems to be quite a lot. someone told me today that by having extra salt on food can help reduce sweating. does anyone know if this is true, that by having more salt it can reduce sweating? i don't have much, if any, extra salt on my food so it does make sense i suppose.

It makes sense to me, since salt absorbs water, (but Sam is probably right. Lol :P)
But itd be healthiest to lose weight and get in shape.
The reason you sweat more when you are heavy I assume is because you are more easily too hot with the 'insulation' so your body needs to cool down more often :P

That being said, sweat is actually good, it keeps you cool, and gets rid of waste.

No, extra salt has no effect on sweating. It's an old wives tale, the idea comes from an inaccurate understanding of biology, the notion that salt changes the osmotic balance in your cells, resulting in it holding onto more H2O (remember osmosis form bio?). It's true that salt will pull H2O into your bloodstream, which raises blood pressure, but it doesn't pull enough to prevent/slow down perspiration. And it's a good thing, b/c sweat is the body's air conditioning, the evaporation of sweat cools you, the water acts as a conduit for the heat from your body to leave via evaporation, so when the sweat evaporates, it takes some heat with it, making you feel cooler.

When you're hot, you should drink more water, NO SALT, it will just dehydrate you. Likewise, if you're in shape, the circulatory system can more efficiently move things around, releasing heat better. So, if you drink more H2O and get yourself into better shape, there's a better chance you'll sweat less.

I'd doubt it.

Sweating is your body cooling yourself off(want a smartass explanation?), and NOT a bad thing.

I'm hardly an expert, but salt makes you more dehdrated, because it takes water to prossses

Funny, when it's hot, or i'm in PE, i sweat so bad. Probably not related to [what you say] weight, rather, how you just *are*
