I first got gynecomastia (hard tissue under nipples) when I was 11 years old and it was sensitive and swollen for about a month. Now everyone tells me its nothing to worry about it should go away in a few months/years but 5 years later it's still here. I'm about 5'9", 160 lbs and I'm in good shape, but the gyno just won't seem to go away. I'm getting really mad because even my doctor doesn't seem to care and just tells me it'll go away.

I really need some feedback on this. Your help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. I also lift weights a bit and I've almost finished/finished puberty. My testosterone level seems average/above average as my voice is low and I have finished growing facial hair.

Sorry, I'm going to give you the answer you don't want.
It will go away, honestly it will.

But you could always try a different doctor?? Get a second opinion, actually that would be my advice, if your still worried about it, go to another doc. :-)

Just think of it like puberty, you're going through it, and at some point, it'll be done. Can't rush it, can't hurry it, can't really fix it. So, just let your body do its thing and if your doctor says it'll go away, just give it time.

Gynecomastia is both common and temporary, I think the frustration is caused by the belief (hope?) that 'temporary' means 'soon'. It just means 'not permanent'. Hang in there.

If your doc has asssessed this and told you it's not permanent, then you might want to work on coping with it better, maybe hold onto the fact that it will go away....eventually. More than that, he can't do.

Gynecomastia has nithing to do with testosterone levels, it's more to do with the estrogen levels, guys make that too, and the (temproary) increase is what the breast tissue responds to. But since we're guys, those estrogen levels drop, and with it, so do the nippies.

It makes me so mad though, The doctors say it should go away in 1-2 years but its been OVER FIVE years, I know you guys can see how that makes them a little untrustworthy right? I can just feel the damn thing under my skin and I wish I could cut it out myself.

You problem is a rough one, and I really feel for you. I agree with one of the posts above that it is time that you should find a new doctor if this current one is blowing you off about your concerns. Perhaps a different doctor can treat your issue from a new perspective. I know that it sometimes takes another opinion to make things better. You might want to check out the following link from the Mayo Clinic which might help you: http://www.mayoclinic.com/print/gynecomastia/DS00850/DSECTION=all&METHOD=print

As for your specific situation, has your breasts reduced at all, or are they still pretty swollen? I have noticed even on some male athletes that they sometimes have swollen nipples, but it really does not look bad on them. You seem to have a good height and weight, and I reckon that as long as you stay in shape your problem will not be too noticeable. Good abs can really make folks noticed that good feature as opposed to your nipples.

I agree with the others that your problem will go away with time, but it still would be good to get a second opinion from another doctor.
