Ok, for Christmas I got a 42 in TV for my room. I moved my Xbox into my room and whenever my brother is on his laptop it lags like blue hell when I'm on XBL with my friends and it really annoys me. Is there anyway to prevent this?

Is your brother using any P2P applications that could be sucking up all the upstream bandwidth?

Is your xbox hard-wired into a router?
-Wirelessly?
If so to either of those, what make is the router (Linksys, D-Link, ect.)?

If you do have a router, we can set it up to give your xbox the bandwidth priority.

My Xbox is wirelessly connected. The router is linksys, and my brother doesn't uses any P2P apps. All I know is ever since I have moved it up here in my room it lags whenever my brother is on his laptop.

With the xbox on and connected to the network....
In your browser (On your computer :p ), type in 'http://192.168.1.1/'
For the username, enter 'admin'
For the password, enter 'admin'

In the middle of the page there should be a button that says 'DHCP Reservation'. Click that.
It will pull up a list of everything connected to your network.
Look for the client name that says either 'xbox<something>' or a client name that is completly blank. Copy down the MAC Address. And close the popup.
Back on the Router config page, click on 'Applications & Gaming', then click on 'QoS'

Set 'Internet Access Priority' to 'Enabled'
Select from the drop down list under 'Catagory', 'MAC Address'.
For 'Enter a Name' Put something like 'xbox' or 'XBL'.
Paste the MAC Address you copied from the DHCP Reservation page into the 'MAC Address' box.
Leave the priority 'Medium'.

If it still lags when your bro is on his laptop, then set the priority to 'High'.

Also, how good of a connection do you get to the router? (1, 2, 3, ect bars)

I get full bars. At least when my brother isn't on his laptop.
