It isn't dangerous if done safely, but you need to make sure that the things fit, and that they are lubed. I tried a couple of times and got nothing, I don't know if I just don't care for it or if I was doing something wrong.

If anal penetration is performed using correct preparation and enough stretching of the sphincter muscle, then "shoving something up there" is a relatively safe practice.

A prostate exam performed in a clinical environment, without any other stimulation is highly unlikely to excite anyone without a doctor kink.
