Okay, I am catholic and in the bible it says and I quote " All Adulterer's,Lust filled, and who commit sexual pleasure to themselfs shall be sent to hell into enternal damnation" well..as most of you can tell, one happens to be Masturbation which I happen to do frequently I was wondering if you guys had any thoughts on this.

well i do that too and im catholic as well. in the time when the bible was writen you had sex to have children and that was about it. so stuff like masterbation was considered prety bad because that was waisting your "seed"

A lot of this has to do with how you are to focus on God and not let your sexuality get in between you and your relationship with God.

I think the bit about the church changing the bible might have some truth...
It would be hard to prove though. Did you know that the meaning of hell was changed to include fire to scare people?

Anyway, I'm catholic too. We are told that God loves us all, with our faults. Do you think that in a world of war and terror God is bothered by something as trivial as masturbation? I don't think so.... As long as you lead a good life why would he be?

I think that all threads like this should be blocked before it get's too far. In the past as Johnny pointed out, people end up bitching and being cruel to each other because of course, their right and others are wrong. It's like a never ending cycle this topic, no one will ever be able to agree on anything. I'm not discouraging people from starting clever wise debates, but most of the time it ends badly, and as Sugar' pointed out..it's a tired topic.

I'm a sucker for an avi with a cute kid smiling at me and waving, so I'm going to give my $.02 on the topic, eventhough it should come as no surprise to anyone what I'm about to say.

First, I think everyone needs to determine for themselves what is 'moral' behavior, and certainly everyone needs to determine how that understanding fits into their religious teachings. It would be both absurd and highly inappropriate (as well as disrespectful) to try to convince, cajole, abuse, argue, or otherwise try to belittle or influence the decision of someone based on your own highly personal interpretations of anything moral, least of all, religion.

So, I'll side step the religious component, but will point out that the Almighty did NOT write the Bible. No one really knows what He wants, it's all personal interpretation, but that is perhaps the meaning of Faith. As a result, there's a bit of room for 'personal interpretation', frequently referred to as 'conscience'. You might consult with Father about this, most are more understanding and willing to acknowledge the normalcy of masturbation than you might think.

On the medical/psychological side, though, I can say that masturbation is perfectly normal, everyone does it, and that's b/c it's a biological drive, like needing to urinate or blinking. The sexual drive (which is what causes the urge to masturbate) is not something that can be denied, nor frankly should it be. It's there for a reason, it was given to you for a specific purpose! Rather, the goal should be to manage it and control it so that it is there, like your other senses, to help you enjoy your humanity. So, as long as you're being responsible, as long as it's not interferring with the other things you need to do, then what your body is urgently telling you what to do in the privacy of your own home is your own business. And, it's something everyone else does, too.

I'm a christian, and i think that you don't have to take the bible word for word, it was written 2,000 years ago or more and in a different culture to ours. though i still think its important today.
