View Full Version : What kind of voices do you hear?

I did a few evaluations and I supposedly have some form of Schizophrenia (forget which kind), and I hadn't really notices any signs of it until recently. I'm not even sure if it is a sign, so I'm checking here, because I don't go to my doctor for a month.
I was in my bed a week or so ago, and I heard voices, not telling me to do stuff or anything, but just voices. I couldn't even understand what they were saying because they were so low. Could this be a sign of Schizophrenia? At my group therapy sessions, it seems like all of the people hear distinct voices, giving commands or whatever. So I'm not sure if this could be a sign or not. Then, on the other hand, I might have just been hearing some distant radio... :P

Hearing voices or auditory hallucinations, are symptoms of what is known as a mental state called 'Psychosis'.
Schizophrenia is one of several psychotic disorders. If you, or your friends are hearing voices, seeing things which are not real, feeling things that are not real or smelling things that aren't real, it is very important you consult your doctor as soon as you can.
Psychosis, is a serious medical condition that needs appropriate professional help. If you had a lump, getting larger on your chest, would you see a doctor? Most likely. Treat mental health in the same light, psychosis is serious, and it's very important you get help and you'll be on track for recovery in no time. :)

Sometimes I hear breathing. Not voices, but breathing. Sometimes, it's a Darth Vader-like breathing and sometimes it's like a dog panting.
But I don't know if I'm schizophrenic.

You know if you really are schizo you can't tell when you here if its real or not. Its real to schizo no matter how crazy it might seem. I can't tell whats real or not and thats what screws me up so bad. For now I've been doing really good lately but it never lasts. So I go from normal (when my meds are working right) to totally insane.
Someday, I hope to be able to do normal things like drive and have my own apartment. But first, I have to figure out how to do without some of my meds so I can drive and get a job to pay for a place.
I've been practicing art and I'm getting really good at painting. I just can't paint people yet. I can paint the landscape perfectly. Trees, roads buildings and other stuff is easy.
Oh well, I'll keep trying. :)

I don't think I'm Schizo, but sometimes I hear my name called, but no one's there. When I hear it, it's not exactly clear, realistic, or loud. I just hear it. That's probably the only symptom i get of being Schizo...

Then I guess you're not Schizo :P
I hear my name in music sometimes...it's weird. I can hear my mom say it when I have my earphones on but when I take them off and go "What?" she says she didn't say anything. Course it's the same song I hear it in so it's just how the music goes! ^_^

I have my name called by this shrill and extremely cold feminine voice, and it also says that I'm worthless and stuff. So I mentally kill it (Invision it, and shoot it or burn it, etc.).

I think I'm schizo, but I'm not sure so don't pay close attention. I sometimes hear my name being called, or telling me to do things, but most of the time i see stuff. but i cant tell wether I'm seeing stuff because it seems so real. Theres this one thing that just follows me around, telling me to do things, and if i dont do what it (it could be a he?) says, bad things happens. Or I hear really loud breathing or screams. Anyway, uh, bye.

Sounds like you might be schizo. I'm schizo and its not so bad.
If you hear things telling you to do things its a sign of schizo and you need to see a mental doctor who can hook you up with the right drugs. It won't cure you because there is no cure but it will help you cope and be near normal.
Please get it checked out.

Schizo is an illness. Surely your parents will help you if you got an illness that you can't help. Tell them whats going on and they will get you the help you need.

If you are schizo the sooner you get treatment the better the outcome. Don't delay. A mental doctor can hook you up with the right drugs to help you be near normal.
I take meds and its the best thing that ever happened to me.

The voices I heard were more of a whisper telling me to do strange things, once I tried to climb out of a closed window and try and survive in the attic with no food or drink for 3 days.

I have the exact same thing. I always hear subtle voices which sometimes relate to what im thinking about. After having a speed induced psychotic episode though its always one voice now and it always says negative shit to me. I smoked a joint last night and the voice came back full on. Said alot of strange things.

Sometimes, the voices sound like my friends voices. In this case, there's usually several voices talking to me at once and it sounds like they come out of my head. and I can understand them! they talk about things that have happened in the last week most of the time, a few times though when I'm really tired and it's late at night, i've zoned out and had hallucinations of me talking to someone, and then it came true a few weeks later!!! I haven't been able to explain this "Deja Vu" that i've had.
Other times though, the voice sounds like some sort of twisted demonic version of my own. And it talks to me and I talk back. I've tried to stop myself from talking but I don't feel normal when I stop. i don't know why i can't stop indefinitely. It seems so real, like there's a demon living in my head, yet i suspect it isn't real, because it's talking to me right now quite annoyingly and i'm in a library with a looot of people. I'm not answering it back, so it can't be real except to me if nobody else is looking around for the voice?
...I mean, I can still answer the demon voice through my thoughts... since it's up there.. it can read my thoughts, and stuff...

Well, I'm not diagnosed with schizo(though it does run in my family), but I do have BP and before I was on meds I would see and hear things to a degree.
The latest that I've had any problems was back in November when I would be driving and I could hear something screaming to run my car off into the ditch or head on to a semi truck that I was passing. I've also had, in the past, moving shadows following me around the house screaming at me. According to my mom, I'd usually end up curled up in the bathtub, fully dressed with cold water running, plugging my ears, crying, telling them to stop.
This one I cannot recall at all besides snapping out of it and a friend telling me what happened: as he put it, I was in a hyperactive state, chasing jesus around the garage, throwing things at him(funny since I'm an Atheist), and in a drawer i found a music tape that said "Jesus Loves You" in the kitchen. Apparently I took it out into the garage, busted it with a hammer, had my friend hold it and I was spinning around in circles entangling my body in it. When the tape ran out, I was sitting on the floor, laughing like a madman, talking to something that wasn't there. All I remember was waking up on the garage floor with my friend sitting there staring at me, and I did have the music tape on. I asked him what happened, and that's what he told me.

Wow. That sounds pretty intense, I've never blacked out before. It must have been really scary :(
I've experienced voices while I'm driving too though, last year when I'd drive to my music lesson and to jam sessions, I always had to pass over this one bridge, and every time voice told me to drive off. Most of the time it was yelling in my head, a few times though it actually felt like the voice was whispering in my ear.
I take the train and the subway everywhere now though. Voices still tell me to jump in front of the train every time it comes rolling through the station.

Hey, thanks for sharing this. But most importantly, thanks for staying on your meds, they sound like they're really working and making you feel so much better!
I think the message in your experience is that help really works, that there are very effective treatments available. Did you get that message, too, Colin?

The voices I usually hear are low wispering deep voices. I really don't know if it's real sometimes though, so it's really scary. I can't understand them at all, I could when I was little though (around 6 or 7)

I hear voices and shit, got diagnosed with schitzophrenia two years ago,And since im in a psychosis (impaired perception) i cant shut them out o fmy mind. Its something that's bin going on for years and i have no hope of the future of them going away tilll the medication blocks them out of my head or gives me my ability to use MY mind to tell them to shut up and whatnot back. They can make you smell like something like burning wood and you think other people can smell it and your not sure if they can, it really schetches you out and makes you paranoid, and they are in your subconcious too because i found out their who reads to me and stuff whn i read something and they acutally made me forget my answer or wouldnt read the question right, it was hard to be absolutly sure of your answer and you had to triple check ,even if you knew you were right cuz they'd mess with you like that. And they tell other people EVERYTHING, if you like someone,if you gotta use the washroom you name it,you have NO security ESPECIALLY in big crowds cuz they;ll turn that buzz you hear into people talking about you and going oh yeah, and they fuckin HACK you and make you look like a fag dude it sucks. It really hard to tell if other people hear that stuff and if its actually them.Oh and when you listen to your pod or what ever you fell like THE WORLD can hear it and people tell you shut it off.Schitzophrenia is not cool man

I can feel ya on that one. I'm a mother, and I'm really sick of not being able to drive, because my meds make me a little flighty and airheaded, and my visions get blurry, Im scared to death to drive.
And I think having an outlet is a really good thing. If theres one positive thing common in schizos, its that they usually tend to be artistic, and extremely insightful.
