Police advised Calgarians not to leave wrapped gifts under the Christmas tree after a break-in robbed four small children of their presents.
"Hide any wrapped gifts. If your Christmas tree is visible, do not store presents underneath it," police said in a news release Tuesday.
A home on MacEwen Glen Road N.W. was broken into on Monday, between 5 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. Police say the culprit or culprits entered by tampering with and opening a basement window.
"Once inside, they rummaged through the home, including dresser drawers, and stole rent money, cash, electronics and all of the wrapped Christmas gifts intended for the homeowners' four small children," the police statement said.
The family had recently moved to the area, said police.
The force's District 7 office is accepting unwrapped presents for the family. They're looking for gifts suitable for a girl, 11, and three boys, ages four, six, and 11 months.
Police asked Calgary residents to take precautions such as locking doors and windows, ensuring yards and home exteriors are well lit, and recording the make, model and serial numbers of electronics. A home security system is also a deterrent, said police.
