Some studies have suggested a link between drinking soda and obesity. Soda is high in sugar and calories. Combined with its practically nonexistent nutritional value, soda may cause drinkers to pack on the pounds without receiving even the smallest nutritional benefit. Surprisingly, drinking diet soda has been linked to weight gain as well. However, some experts assert that obesity may be caused not by drinking soda, but by the combination of drinking soda and leading a sedentary lifestyle.

Soda can lead to fat in your diet. And the nutritional value does nothing for you. So the way to tone your musclesanddrop fat is aerobic excercise. This includes jogging, sit ups, biking, etc. The things that get your heart pounding and sweat flowing.

Talk to you doctor about it. Remember, its always harder to lose the last ten pounds than the first 20. Itshard to tone more and more closer to nothing.

Well the thing is that I am considered aerobically fit, my rhb (resting heart beat) is 70, which means my muscles gets the oxygen it needs well so I'm muscular fit and aerobically fit, also diet soda is extremely bad for you, I did research on diet coke and a ingredient in it can CAUSE not lead to 90 diff. health complications, also I weigh about 230 and my body is leaner than my friend that weighs the same and he is huge, I'm not sure how much of my weight is in muscle but it kinda weird and no matter how much I exercise I don't seem to lost fat

Has the doctor said that you have too much fat? Like, your body fat percentage is higher than they would like? If not, don't freak out too much. No one has no fat--it's not healthy at all. For a male your age, the average body fat percentage should be somewhere around 8-19%. Some bathroom scales measure body fat, if yours does check it out. Just make sure the height setting matches yours and step on. The doctor can likely do a test for this as well. There is no need to freak out over fat if you're healthy--everyone has it. Cutting back on the pop will help, but be reasonable about how much you want to lose.

If the doc has said something about it, cutting down on the pop is still a good move. You say you don't overeat or eat much junk food, and that's great, keep that habit. :) Have you ever heard of people having a "beer belly" though? The reason that happens is because beer is all empty calories. Even if you're not a drunk, middle age can slow your metabolism, and all those empty calories have to go somewhere. The same can be said of soda. There's nothing in them that you actually need. Now, that's not to say it doesn't contain some water and sodium, but if you never had another soda your health wouldn't suffer a bit. Try cutting down. Cut back to two per day. If you occasionally slip and have a third, don't beat yourself up about it, but stick with it. Once you can do that without always craving that extra can/glass, try cutting back to one. You don't have to give them up altogether, and allowing yourself a second here and there is fine. I started limiting myself to one can per day a while back, and I really think it's helped with my recent weight loss. I haven't even lost it all yet, but my body fat percentage is right smack in the middle of where it needs to be (it was close to the higher end before).

So give it a try. I know it's a little hard, but drinking some water or juice will be better for you in the long run anyways. :)

3 cans/bottles of pop ('soda') does seem like a lot, esp. if you're concerned about the weight. Muscle will not 'displace' fat, nor can fat 'trun' into muscle, the 2 are entirely different things that respond to different factors. Muscle, to aerobic exercise, and fat, to calories. As Addison said, there's really nothing of nutritional value in soda, all it does is taste good, and most people drink it out of habit.

Since you want to gain muscle mass and lose the fat, it would seem a good idea to eliminate as many sources of empty, useless calories as possible. Quitting the pop seems like a good start.

omg dude 3 pops a day is like a ton. If you stop the pops and keep excersising I'm sure the fat will melt off. Replace pop with water, juice, etc. it'll make you healthier, less fat, and make you feel lots better. Also, it'll improve your performance, whether it be athletic, or academic.
