View Full Version : Bullying in School/Work

Is there a bullying problem at your school? Or even at your work?
At my school its huge
No one ever gets in physical fights [although sometimes little stuff, like shoving], but there's so much verbal abuse, its insane
Kids can be so cruel, and it's easy for them.
There's racism, teasing, shoving in the halls, gossip, name calling, whispering, cliques, groups, judgment, nonacceptance, everything you can think of.
The teachers are always talking about how its not right, and we need to stop, but nobody does anything. They can't get through the steel walls to their small brains to make them realize that it really isn't acceptable. They try really hard, but it just doesn't happen
But then again, our school is great academically, and I'm sure its problems are minuscule compared to others
So I can't complain too much.
But I don't get how kids can be so cruel when they are all in the difficult time of puberty. They don't realize that everyone has problems, especially now, and bullying others won't resolve theirs.

Pretty bad.
There are fights between the buildings every so often.
I've been tripped and ran into a little to much
There's loads of sexual harrasment which the staff says they'll do something about, but obvouslly don't.
Whats worse is what they try to do to "fix" it. They'll do these "school/class unity" bullshit in homeroom or asemblies. Forsing everyone to 'get along' in HIGHSCHOOL is just stupid, and i think it makes it worse

i hate it all
and the teachers never do anything about it

Well, being in college, everybody is a bit more mature than that, especially since we all choose to be there.
So it's basically a 0.
My high school wasn't bad at all though. Freshman year is the only bad year since people were trying to 'assert their social dominance' in a piss-poor attempt to show off to the upperclassmen. But other than that, Sophomore year and up, everybody was friends with everybody just about and got along. Only occasional fights, little to no bullying besides amongst the freshmen. We all decided to make the best of it since we didn't have a choice in being at school or not. We did have a lot of drama queens though, so...
I give it a 3.

Ive been quite lucky, because I can say that apart from occasional bitchiness amongst the girls, and silly little arguments amongst the boys i've never been in contact with bullying at all. My schools have been really tough on bullying (i went to a set of catholic schools) and now im in college no one cares what people think and no one picks on anyone!
I'd give it a 1

It's definatly a huge issue. It doesn't seem like that from the outside, because in Mass it's St.John's Prep Cream de le crop (Pardon me, that was terrible I Know, I'm unaware of how to spell that.) But the senior's like to do this "Activity" every week where they link arms and make it so the freshman can't pass and are late for class. Also there is a vast geek/tech population and some of the jocks find them stupid because they don't really like girls. Now, would I give it a 10? No, and here's why. There are alot of people who reach out to those being made fun off, in essence the nice people outnumber the bullies so I'll put 7 it's an issue but we do our best to avoid it.

Its not so much typical bullying as much as harassment and being dick heads/caddy bitches to eachother. Like, people will say things as a joke, but it will come across as a terrible remark. But people, to keep the peace, don't speak up for themselves, and instead just take it.

The funny/sad part about that is that that's how a lot of high schools are like, it's sad, but that's just how it's become.
I personally won't take bullying if its towards me very well but usually I'll just laugh about it. If it really gets out of hand I'm not afraid to start a fight because I don't like take crap from other people.
Just go through 4 years of this crap and it's pretty much all over. You'll really never be able to change things like groups, cliques, gossip and pretty much everything you said above. You would be trying to change what MILLIONS of kids do. Things like groups and whatnot, thats gone on for 100's of years. Hell we have that on VT.
Since I really don't know/are friends with that many people that go to the school I go to because most of them came from a different middle school, I'd say that there's not much bullying and it's more of just joking around. Since my schools rated like 100th in the nation, I guess it's got like a reputation to live up to. 3, 4 at the most.

At work sometimes a few jerks will threaten other workers with their jobs. Usually these type of people aren't in any position to fire anyone even though they are higher in the chain of command than you. I've never been threatened but other people have.

In college, no...at work, no, and in my old high school...very little. We're basically all racist, but there are no minorities, in reality, we're all pretty much assholes, to everyone...but everyone takes it, so there's really no bullying problem. A few kids do actually get a lot of shit, but they are taking it better lately. I voted 3.

There's no bullying where I work.. we all just have a damn good laugh.. mostly taking the piss out of each other lol.. it's just friendly banter.
When I was at school there was lots of bullying.. I'd rate it at about 6..

There is bullying...but in my year it's very rare as we're all such together people.
My year now, as we're all much older as well, are much better at that.
But I don't know about the lower years...I expect their is, but it's not as bad as some schools.

Any reason for that?

At university, there's not a lot of bullying as most people tend to either be studying, in the gym, researching or in a lab, sleeping, eating or drinking (which doesn't count as bullying for drunken fights), or some other random activity. However, I cant say it's zero, closer to a 2.

Because it's not necessarily a problem

Because it's not necessarily a problem
It's a problem for the victims, and also if you want to go a bit further; the school's reputation can be ruined if it's got bad cases of bullying.
In my school, bullying's not a massive problem per se, but it does happen here and there (including to me).
Fights have become somewhat a rarity these days, but when I was in Year 7/Year 8 (3-4 years ago) there were more rough kids, and definitely more fights from the then-Year 11's.

I'm not really sure how bad it is at my school, theyre are gangs, name calling, gossip, fights, death threats, racism, idk how people at my school react to gay/bi people, I haven't gotten bullied about being bi much. The teahcers don't really do anything about it, in fact they are kind of a part of it, I mean, I got in trouble and the vice principal talked to me and he crossed his legs and put his hands on his knee and was like "So you know what you did right?" kind of gayly (don't ask lol) and after I was done talking to him i stept out and I saw the other vice principal come up to me and say "did he put his hand on his knee again?" and I was like "Yeah." and he was like "It's okay, he's a gaywod" And I was like wtf!? lol
