What does your countries flag represent to you?
When you see it fly does it fill you with pride, or evoke another emotion in you?
Would you be happy to see people flying/wearing the flag, would you wear it yourself?
I'm interested in how people feel about their countries flag, as recent events have turned the flying of their countries flag from a symbol of pride, into an open declaration of racism.
I come from NZ but currently live in Australia, and I don't feel comfortable with flying either flag, as neither of them mean anything positive to me. When I see the Australian flag it reminds me of the blind patriotism and subsequent racism of many members in our society.
I would never wear either flag and refuse to sing either national anthem, but that's me.
How do you feel

I live in the U.S. the american flag of the red, white and blue
What does your countries flag represent to you?It represnts the freedom we have gained the right to be oneself, gain ones dreams without repent
When you see it fly does it fill you with pride, or evoke another emotion in you?It reminds me of an oceans wave so calmness and security because it always seems to be in slow motion to me.
Would you be happy to see people flying/wearing the flag, would you wear it yourself?Flying it yes, or as a small wrist band or symbol but no as like an outfit. Its just saying "my country is better then yours and im mean about it"
I think the flag of the U.S. is a symbol of freedom and self-power. It represents a place where if you wanna be an actor, singer, accountant, lawyer or even just a bum you can if you work for it. For me the colors mean:
Red: The blood you will shed giving it your all and trying to acheive your dream
White: The way my generation is showing. Neurtality of your sexuality, race, color, ambitions and dreams. My generation as ive seen is showing this quality
Blue: The wave of an ocean of water. Calmness, feeling at peace and love all around.
That what the U.S. flag means to me

What does your countries flag represent to you?
Hypocrasy. The flaming hatred of millions and invoked torture of its own citizens.
When you see it fly does it fill you with pride, or evoke another emotion in you?
Embarrassment. I fail to see why anyone would be PROUD of what America has done to the world and to its own people.
Would you be happy to see people flying/wearing the flag, would you wear it yourself?
If they want to wear it, whatever, but you will be hard pressed to ever see my fly an American flag nor wear one.

What does your countries flag represent to you? It represents my stand with freedom and that my country is a country unlike others.
When you see it fly does it fill you with pride, or evoke another emotion in you? It fills me with great joy and pride because most countries don't have the freedoms that we have. It also evokes a small be of hatred because most Americans don't know how good they got it.
Would you be happy to see people flying/wearing the flag, would you wear it yourself? My neighbors fly the flag and it makes me happy to see people proud to be happy with their freedom. If you're wearing the flag as a wristband or a symbol on a shirt then I'm fine. But, don't wear it as a headband or as a jump suit. That's showing disrespect.
I live in the United States and I for one am proud to be in a country that is free. I am happy to see the flag fly over and serve as a reminder of our battles against the Brits to become independent. I'm happy to see it on our soldier's uniforms as a patch that shows that they are standing up and protecting a nation that they love the most above all else.
But, I'm also angry. The flag represents how easy-going most Americans are. Most of the citizens of this country don't understand how good they have it. They don't understand that most countries aren't free like ours and not everybody is allowed independence.

My opinion: The UK flag doesn't represent anything as gloomy as "people died for us". It represents the unity of four different countries in a (fairly) amicable alliance.
I really do like seeing the UK flag being flown - though I am finding myself taking more pride in being English and not British. I really love seeing it being flown from Windsor Castle or Buckingham Palace!
I like seeing people fly/wear the flag. I would fly it, but wouldn't wear it. Lol.
It is sad that people associate their countries flag with racism.

Would you be happy to see people flying/wearing the flag, would you wear it yourself? I wouldn't care if they wore it or not. I find that people who wear that sorta stuff look funny.

What does your countries flag represent to you? 50 states, 13 original colonies, bloodshed, blah blah blah. Really, it means standing your ground and not backing down looking at it historically.
When you see it fly does it fill you with pride, or evoke another emotion in you? After Bush leaves office, I can feel pride once more. I was always one of those kids who you saw sitting down during the pledge of allegiance at assemblies or at any other public functions. I only stand up for the national anthem. If I recall, a teacher threatened to give me detention one time because I was 'being disrespectful'... but changed her mind once I went to the principal about it... lawlers.
Would you be happy to see people flying/wearing the flag, would you wear it yourself? I don't mind seeing people flying it, there's nothing wrong with having pride in your country. It just looks funny when people wear it, it's not exactly fashion friendly. I'd never wear it myself just because I don't care for it.

Ya, I didn't stand for the national anthem once while in marching band because I had the flu and was like, about to vomit in the tuba, and my teacher like, screamed at me. I never have to do the pledge in my school. I don't do the pledge if I could anyway. Ha.

lulz, America.
What does your countries flag represent to you? Oh, so many synonyms for epic failure, and so little time...
When you see it fly does it fill you with pride, or evoke another emotion in you? It evokes a strong desire to move overseas.
Would you be happy to see people flying/wearing the flag, would you wear it yourself? I've learned to ignore the kinds of people who wear this flag with pride. I would never wear it myself. Well, perhaps as underwear.
I stopped saying "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance when I was 12. I stopped saying the pledge altogether the next year. As of last year, I don't even bother to stand with the rest of the class.
I adore some of our founding principles and constitutional values(Freedom of speech, assembly, the right to bear arms, pursuit of happiness, etc.), but I despise the nation that simultaneously claims these values as their own, and seems to actively work to undermine them every single day.

What does your countries flag represent to you? The UK flag to me represents a rather rocky alliance of different countries. Also for some reason it reminds me of our once huge empire, even though that wasn't the flag for the empire.
It also makes me feel proud to be a citizen of the UK. Apart from the fact that it looks the best out of any of the other flags...and it reminds me how we once fucked the world!
When you see it fly does it fill you with pride, or evoke another emotion in you? More pride than anything else.
Would you be happy to see people flying/wearing the flag, would you wear it yourself? Yeah, our flag is almost a fashion symbol really, wait till the Olympics...oh I can't wait that will be awsome.

What does your countries flag represent to you? Meh, on one hand it represents freedom and independence and a "land of opportunity" but on the other hand it represents corruption, hatred, racism, ignorance, etc... Its just so tough. A flag is a flag, but when a flag has been around this long, it's bound to be viewed as representing so many different things... I tend to just view it as waffles, because that doesn't anger me or make me think too much, it just makes me hungry.
When you see it fly does it fill you with pride, or evoke another emotion in you? Not really. I mean, wow, there's a flag blowing in the wind, whoopty-doo? If I was alive 200 years ago, my opinion might differ, but as of now, it doesn't really evoke any emotion in me. The flag lost its true "value" a long time ago in my eyes.
Would you be happy to see people flying/wearing the flag, would you wear it yourself? They can do whatever the heck they want. The more people that wear the flag, the more waffles I'll think about, and that has its positives and its negatives, so its really up to them.

I love my flag. I am very proud of it and love seeing it being flown around the world.
The green represents Gaelic and old Ireland, the orange represents Protestants and the white stands for peace between the two. Basically Catholic and Protestants and peace between the two. I love it. :)

What does your countries flag represent to you? It represents the freedom that so many men have fought and died for, and the best country inthe world
When you see it fly does it fill you with pride, or evoke another emotion in you?you always feel full of pride when I see my flag, but I also feel a little depressed because people use the freedoms that flag represents to put this country down and try destroy what it truly stands for
Would you be happy to see people flying/wearing the flag, would you wear it yourself?I would be happy to see people wear the flag and iwould wear it every day
I dealt dolove what's left of America but there are so many people (specificly liberals) that are basicaly trying to destroy it. We have just elected a presedent that claims the constitution is "deeply flawed" even though he will have to swear to protect it on inauguration day. If we showed some backbone like our forefathers and actualy tryed to take some pride in being Americans rather than draging our country name through the mud this country could be what it was meant to be from the start. Instead people choose to condem it
CaptainObvious
January 8th, 2009, 04:15 AM
Archer600: Specifically liberals are trying to destroy America? And it's Obama who shows no regard for the Constitution!? Seriously? The current lame duck (aka President Bush) has used the Constitution practically as toilet paper so often during his term that to hear about new violations is almost not even news.
You wait a little while; if you can seriously tell me, once Obama's spent some time in office, that he has truly subverted the ideals enshrined in the Constitution - which, by the way, he is intimately familiar with (much, much more than you), being a professor of Constitutional Law and all - in even as close to as massive a way as Bush, I will be dismayed and count you as being right. Until then, you're just blowing meaningless right-wing smoke.
Just to close:
"If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator." - George W. Bush
Just who was it who didn't have American values down pat again? Liberals...?

A year ago, no.
But we elected an African American, a democrat, and there is nothing that makes me more patriotic than the political process.

Well, he's going to be the change that America needs. It's not just that he's Commander in Chief; it's that, in all honesty, the president of the United States is the most powerful, influential man in the world. George Bush gave America a bad image in that he made the wrong decisions about important things (key: Iraq) and was underqualified for the job.
One can tell from just watching Obama's inauguration speech that he's going to be helpful in the long run, although it may not happen immediately. Yes, he's promised a lot, but I feel like he'll be able to go through with it.

^^ You're always welcome in the United States; though it isn't much better (if its better at all) here. I think I'm going to move to Antarctica, create my own flag, and start a nation with a bunch of penguins as my followers. ;) Once I create my own flag in Antarctica, I will worship it like a deity.

Eskimos. :P
Sounds like fun lol.
I always forget that Finland exists, it seems like not much happens over there; at least there's never any news in the U.S. about Finland. Spain, on the other hand, is a place I really want to visit. I'm like "semi-fluent" in Spanish and I don't know why, but Spain is a really "attractive" place to live in my opinion. Italy seems nice too. :D Though starting my own nation in Antarctica would mean I wouldn't have to worry about despotism. I don't think penguin government officials are easily corrupted, unless some of my followers start bribing them with fish.
But yes, lets try and keep this on topic... 0.o
