CAMHS = Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services

People have different experiences of CAMHS to be perfectly honest with you.
They are a generally friendly service which consists of psychiatrists, psychologists, family therapists, social workers etc. You'll have an assessment and then the team will agree on what treatment options (if any are needed) that they can offer you. Sometimes it will just be talking therapies, other times they will combine that with medication.

I was referred to them twice. The first time, I was not in the right place to benefit properly from the therapy. The second time was different. I was open to help, but I couldn't be 100% honest in the assessment because I felt too unsure about them and Mum would have heard about things (i.e. sexual abuse) that I couldn't let her know. This led to a misdiagnosis and then they ended up regarding me as manipulative when they learnt the truth.

Other people have more positive experiences though. Try your best to be open to their support and to answer honestly to their questions as this is probably the way to benefit from their services most.
